Preface
TheMaharashtra Investment Regions has been complied by Ernst & Young India LLP (EY), the Knowledge
Partner to Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation to provide hand holding assistance to
investors.
The intention is to provide executives a quick overview to the macroeconomic indicators of the 6
investment regions of the State.
The complex decision-making process involved in undertaking foreign operations requires an intimate
knowledge of a countrys and a States commercial climate as well as recognition of the fact that this
climate is continuously evolving. Companies doing business in India, or planning to do so, would be well-
advised to obtain current and detailed information from experienced professionals. The information
presented in this book has been validated w.e.f July, 2013.

Marathwada identifies one of the five regions
in Maharashtra state of India. The region
coincides with the Aurangabad Division. The
world heritage sites of Ajanta and Elloracaves
are located near Aurangabad. Marathwada is
referred to as the land of saints. SantTukaram,
Samarth Ramdas, Sant Dyaneshwar all hailed
from this region.
There has, been accelerated industrial growth
in Marathwada in the past few years and

Nashik the third most industrialized city in
Maharashtra, and one of the fastest growing
cities of India; is also referred to as the "Wine
Capital of India", and Indias Napa Valley. It is
located in the Western Ghats, northwest of
Maharashtra; 180 km from Mumbai and 202
km from Pune. The city is the administrative
headquarters of Nashik district and Nashik
Division. The picturesque city located on the
banks of the Godavari, is known for its
pleasant climate. The river flows out from
Trimbakeshwar that lies southwest of the city.
The famed Nassak Diamond borrows its
name from this city only.

The Konkan, also called the Konkan Coast or
Karavali is the name given to a stretch of
rugged western coastline of India from Raigad
to Mangalore. Greater Bombay consists of
the City of Bombay and the Bombay
Suburban District. The City of Bombay was a
separate unit, and was not included in a
division and was included in the Konkan
Division. A division has a Divisional
Commissioner in charge. District Collector is
in charge of District., and taluka is placed
under Tehsildar. For each village or a group of
villages a Talathi is appointed for revenue
administration.

largest district in the state and covers 5.10%
of the total geographical area of the state. The
landscape of Pune district is distributed
triangularly in western Maharashtra at the
foothills of the Sahyadri Mountains.
