We, too, incur the same requests. In fact the TRRC has evolved into
a service-type operation in dealing with these requests, generally provi
ding advice and timing equipment to just about any non-prot organization
wh o i n d i c a t e t h e y wi s h t o p u t o n a r a c e .
The very valid criticism is that TRRC is a non-prot organization &
should look upon itself as a worthy charity, raising funds to improve and
expand its own programs. (This, by the way, is the predominent feeling of
RRCA Chapters across the l and.)
Pr obl em: dues at cur r ent l evel do not cover expenses. Thi s i s f ur t her
compounded by decisions made by Dannon Yogurt and Campbells V-8 to with
draw support from our two biggest fundraisers in 1984. This has resulted
i n our cl ub exper i enci ng some nanci al pr essur e.
At t hi s t i me t he TRRC woul d best be served by cont i nui ng our pol i cy of
favorable acceptance towards charitable races, and also I would like to
see us hol d t he l i ne on our dues. Obvi ousl y somet hi ng has t o gi ve.
The sol uti on may l i e i n events di rectl y beneci al to the cl ub. Here
your support is needed. When we have a race which will have a direct ben
et on t he cl ub we wi l l adver t i se i t as such, and i f a si zeabl e por t i on
of our 600 plus membership show up,our nancial pressure will be eased in
a painless way. The rst of these events is our Couples Relay on Dec. 16
which in turn will be followed by our Winter Series races in 1985. Your
parti ci pati on wi l l be appreci ated Hel p us hel p you.

Dollars, dollars everywhere but . .
Sponsorship, entry fees and membership dues represent our main sources
of income. Support of low-keyed events, mailings, postage and RRCA dues are
our key expenditures. In the past we have used successful events to support
others which, though far from self-sustaining, are deemed benecial to our
s p o r t .
Included among these events are the age group cross country series;the
biathlon and pentahlons; our track series; Sybil Ludington; couples relays;
and even, at t i mes, our cl ub races such as t hose run i n wi nt er.
With the loss of Dannon and Campbells a reassessment of this policy is
i n order. So, too, may that of our newsl etter. Fi fty percent of al l mem
bership dues go toward publication costs. Our alternatives for possible
consideration by all of us are to support these low-keyed events, raice our
dues, nd alternate sponsors or donors, or cut back or eliminate unproduct
i v e e f f o r t s .
Final decision will undoubtedly be determined by membership action. If
you can, do your utmost to participate in our club events; drop us a line
as to any suggestions you may have regarding our situation; do something.
