The document summarizes the financial challenges facing the Taconic Road Runners Club. It notes that the club's main sources of income are sponsorships, entry fees, and membership dues. However, it recently lost support from two major sponsors. This, combined with expenses for mailings, publications, and other activities, has put financial pressure on the club. The club president discusses options like raising dues, finding new sponsors, or cutting back on less profitable events. He asks members to support upcoming club races and events to help address the budget issues.

We, too, incur the same requests. In fact the TRRC has evolved into a service-type operation in dealing with these requests, generally provi ding advice and timing equipment to just about any non-prot organization wh o i n d i c a t e t h e y wi s h t o p u t o n a r a c e . The very valid criticism is that TRRC is a non-prot organization & should look upon itself as a worthy charity, raising funds to improve and expand its own programs. Support of low-keyed events, mailings, postage and RRCA dues are our key expenditures. In the past we have used successful events to support others which, though far from self-sustaining, are deemed benecial to our s p o r t . Included among these events are the age group cross country series;the biathlon and pentahlons; our track series; Sybil Ludington; couples relays; and even, at t i mes, our cl ub races such as t hose run i n wi nt er. With the loss of Dannon and Campbells a reassessment of this policy is i n order. So, too, may that of our newsl etter. Fi fty percent of al l mem bership dues go toward publication costs. Our alternatives for possible consideration by all of us are to support these low-keyed events, raice our dues, nd alternate sponsors or donors, or cut back or eliminate unproduct i v e e f f o r t s . Final decision will undoubtedly be determined by membership action. If you can, do your utmost to participate in our club events; drop us a line as to any suggestions you may have regarding our situation; do something. P l e a s e . r C A L L h i m *!
