Subject: Announcing Professor Luis Chiesa, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs

Dear Law School Community:
I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of an administrative change at the Law
School. Effective June 1, 2014, Professor Luis Chiesa will serve as the Vice Dean for Academic
Affairs, succeeding SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Charles Ewing.
Professor Ewing has served the Law School in two important positions since 2009. On June 1,
2009, he became the Law Schools inaugural Vice Dean for Legal Skills. In that capacity, he
helped us bring pedagogical rationale and administrative coherence to a vital area of our
academic program. On July 1, 2012, he took over as the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs,
succeeding SUNY Distinguished Professor James Gardner. Please join me in thanking Professor
Ewing for his work and dedicated service to our academic programs.
We were understandably excited when we successfully recruited Professor Luis Chiesa to our
Law School. In a very short period of time here, Professor Chiesa has won the Faculty Award,
brought to UB high profile scholars from around the globe for important academic conclaves,
and quickly established himself as a full law school citizen. Professor Chiesa is an exceptional
scholar, teacher, and Director of the Buffalo Criminal Law Center. I have every confidence in his
ability to serve as the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs. I very much look forward to working
with Professor Chiesa and ask that we all give him our support and assistance as he takes on this
important service role.

Luis,

Your requests are disrespectful to me and demeaning to you. And, to the contrary, you do have
to explain to me why you do not want receive e-mails that are directly related to your duties as
a faculty member. You chose to become part of this faculty and therefore tacitly accepted all
the responsibilities that go along with that job.

Jeffrey

choose to be a part of this mailing list that youve created and I did not tacitly acquiesce to
being part of it. Therefore, your emails are simply unwanted and this has been made very clear
to you. The fact that you continue sending me emails in spite of my polite requests that you
stop doing so is disrespectful.
