Netspan is Airspan's centralized network management system for WiMAX products. It provides fault, configuration, performance, security and alarm management for WiMAX networks. Netspan uses a client-server architecture with a web-based interface to allow operators to configure and monitor the radio network, storing data in an SQL database. It also supports features like automatic subscriber provisioning and roaming.

all the features that are required for the initial installation and commissioning of the products as well as their day-to-day efficient running. To this end, all products include comprehensive management capabilities in terms of features designed into the products as well as the centralised Operations & Management (O&M) system, Netspan. Netspan provides the following functions: Fault management Configuration management Alarm handling Performance management Security management Netspan is designed around a client/server architecture. The Netspan server runs on a PC platform, making use of an SQL database to store the configuration, statistics and alarm history from the radio network. Access to the Netspan server is from Microsoft Internet Explorer, using the web service of the Netspan server. The mimimum Netspan platform requirements are: The Netspan O&M has terminal mobility service support from day 1, enabling roaming and self-installation by customers using EasyST and ProSTs. Auto-CPE provisioning and Auto- Service Flow and Service Product allocation ensures that the network operator can take advantage of any compatible WiMAX Certified CPE that connects to his network. Network Authentication is managed separately from service provisioning and activation, which is a fundamental part of any mobile system design. Each Netspan operator is given configurable access rights, allowing each operator to be granted the rights appropriate to their function. Netspan provides configuration and diagnostic access to every WiMAX network element, right down to each individual Subscriber Terminal. The server and client may be located remotely from the equipment being managed. For general use the following host machine is recommended for the server application. CPU: Dual Processor (Pentium 4, Xeon or better with 1Mb L2 cache) Memory: 2GB RAM Drive Controller: Dual Channel Ultra 320 SCSI RAID Controller: support RAID 01 or stripped mirror, eg PERC Hard Drive: 2 x Hot Plugable, 73GB, SCSI drives (15K RPM) CD ROM Drive Tape Back-up Network Interface Card For small network trials, where backup and redundancy capability within the host machine is not required, the following specification Netspan Server can be used. CPU: Pentium 4, 2.8Ghz Memory: 1GB RAM Hard Drive: 80GB CD ROM Drive Network Interface Card Note: These are recommended minimum specifications Connection: Ethernet Client-server: HTML over HTTP AS.MAX: SNMP over TCP/IP SQL database: ADO.NET Inter component communications: .Net Remoting The Netspan server is based around Internet Information services (IIS) (See http://www.microsoft.com/iis). This is a web hosting application, and allows the clients to connect up via HTTP using a standard web browser. The web application is developed using Microsoft ASP.NET. Depending on the type of Netspan installation to be run, a subset of the following prerequisites is required: Server Operating System: Windows 2003 server with the latest service packs. The installation pack comes with the set of service packs installers as per availability at the date when the project was built. The user is responsible for checking the Microsoft website for later service packs and hot fixes. IIS: Internet Information Services: 5.0 IIS version 6.0 SQL Server: SQL Server 2000: SP4 or later: 8.00.2039 SQL 2000 version < 9.0 SQL Server 2005: SP1 or later: 9.00.2047 SQL 2005 version < 10.0 SQL Server 2005 Express Edition: 9.00.2047 SQL 2005 Express version < 10.0 .Net Framework 2.0: 2.0.50727 .Net Framework version < 2.1 Note: Netspan Requires an English version of OS, keyboard, SQL Server. Note: Netspan must not be installed on a machine configured as a Domain Controller. Installation of Netspan on a domain controller is not supported. Please install Netspan on a non- domain controller installation of Windows Server.
