Lands End is a peak in San Francisco.

The desired location of

the short film. It is a film experimenting two fictional
characters Hazel and Johnny, who appear to be in love despite
being in their own relationships.

*Note that the dialogue in this script is blunt. However, the
film explores more towards the atmosphere music, and scenery,
giving the film a slow pace to it.

(Beach Rats - Growlers) playing
-Johnny is wearing a black leather jacket &
shades. He's laid back smoking a cigarette.
Lifts shades, checks watch for the time.
Flicks cigarette, and then grabs his bag
from the bike, and takes out a couple of
items.

Sprays Cologne, takes a shot from a
flask, and takes out tic tac. Takes a deep
breath, turns down record player and leaves
the bike. Walks forward and sits close to
the edge of the peak, overlooking a sunset
view of SF.

(Song gets quieter the father he walks)

-Girl on a bike approaches from behind and
places it next to Johnnys bike. Johnny
still overlooking the view. Girl in a french
coat comes out and sits next to him, No eye
contact from both, looking straight.

Johnny offers a cigarette and she takes one
from the pack. He lights it up, both still
eyes forward.

Long Pause and both smoking. Blank Faces.


Johnny
Did anyone Follow you?
Finally, Looks at her.

Hazel
Not at all

Johnny
Good. How have you been?

Hazel
Ive been well. Hows Sussie and little
Johnny?

Finally, Looks at him

Johnny
She's fine. He's three now.

Pulls out wallet and shows a picture to her

Hazel
Wow, the more he grows up,
the more hes starting to look
like you

Hands it back

Johnny
Yeah, hes being good to the
wife. Hows Curtis?

Hazel
sighs Its gotten complicated

Johnny
Do you want to talk about it?

Johnny
Maybe some dinner will make you feel

Johnny takes paper bags from bag with
sandwiches wrapped in plastic, lays a
blanket out

Johnny
I made your favorite. Its tuna.

Hazel

How is it?

Hazel
Too much mayo like always.

Johnny
haha i was in a hurry.

Hazel
Is that ham and cheese?

Johnny

Johnny
Thanks. I just got too lazy so I said
fuck it. I got a son to take care of.

Hazel laughs in a guilty way

Johnny
You still take ballroom?

Hazel
Not as much as I used to. You?

Johnny
No, I stopped too. I miss it though.

Hazel
Its been three years since we have.

Johnny

Johnny gets up and gets the record
player, and candles from bag.

Turns on the record player. He puts
the candles on the ground and lights
them up.

Johnny

Hazel nods

Its almost been three

Hazel
Scoffs* Yeah. The sky is clear this year.

Johnny
Yeah. Almost as clear as the
night I asked you out at this
very spot.

Stops Dancing. Stares, then Kisses. Hazel stops
and looks shocked.

Hazel
Johnny, what did we just do?

Johnny
You didnt think it felt right?


Hazel
I meant that we just broke our rule.
We come here once a year just to talk
about life and nothing else.

Johnny

Johnny
Cmon. Lets go.

Grabs her hand and the record player, runs down
to the shoreline.


Hazel

Johnny looks confused

Your cologne silly!

Johnny
Oh yea, do you smell it?


Hazel
No, I just know you. Youve always
sprayed it when we used to go out on
dates

Johnny

Changed it! I bought the
perfume before I smelled it. What
sold me was the shape of the
bottle, since it was shaped like
a golden ring

Johnny
ha You and your french colognes.
Always hard to pronounce.
Speaking of french, I still kept
that record you gave me three
years ago.

Hazel
Which one?

Sets down record player and plays it

Franoise Hardy - Jai jet mon cur

Hazel Smiles, sings along, and tickles him. He
runs after her



- Montage of them having fun along the
shoreline.

Song Ends when they go back up the the
peak.

Both lay down next to each other gazing
up at the night sky on a blanket.


*Camera panned from a birds eye view



Johnny
Better than the last three years
huh?

Hazel
haha all three combined actually!

Laughs then silence
Johnny
You know, looking up at the night
sky tonight, I notice something.

Hazel turns her head to him

Hazel
What do you notice?

Johnny
Hercules looks like he's reaching
for the big dipper

Points to the sky, hazel leaning to see what
hes pointing at.

Look, it looks like hes
diving for it.

Hazel and Johnny Laughs

Hazel
It does! Just a little bit.

Silence, then Hazel turns to him


Hazel
Im breaking up with him.

Johnny sits up and turns to her shocked

Johnny
But you two are engaged!

Hazel
But Im not married yet.

Johnny
Why are you breaking up?

Hazel Shrugs

Hazel you know I have a kid. We

Cmon Hazel where are you going?

She goes to the shoreline, and sits down beside
it. Johnny goes after her.

Hazel
Johnny, I KNOW you have a kid. I
FUCKING KNOW you have a kid. I know
we can't be together. Its just
moments like these.

Breaks down crying and hugs her



Johnny
I know what you mean. Im sorry
it has to be like this

Hazel
Johnny we cant do this anymore. Ill
move to France over the summer.

Johnny
Wait, Why didnt you tell me this
earlier? You told me we can keep
doing this We both agreed that THIS
feels right.

Hazel
Yes. It feels right Johnny, but it
hurts me. Curtis isnt you.

Hazel

Johnny nods with his head down. She lifts his
chin up.

He nods and smiles

Slow dances for a little bit. Smiling, and
content.

She stops midway and heads for the bike. Picks
it up

Pans to Johnny's face up close smiling
She turns back and smiles, and heads to wherever
she is destined.
