(as stated on your personal email)

Two reservoirs are to be linked to a nozzle by sections of straight pipeline carrying water at
20C. The three pipelines meet at a single junction point as shown in the diagram. For the
reservoirs and the nozzle characteristics such as levels, entry loss coefficients and pipeline
properties sent you by email, compute the flows through the pipeline system with the total
head at the junction to an accuracy better than 10mm

Assume negligible head loss at the junction and an appropriate exit loss if flow to a reservoir
occurs. Water will always flow from the highest reservoir and to the nozzle. Flow direction
in the intermediate reservoir is unknown. The nozzle has an exit diameter different to the
pipe supplying it. Assume the head loss at the nozzle is negligible.
Notes:
1. State all assumptions clearly (setting out: 2 marks)
2. Generously illustrate your hand written calculation with relevant diagrams. You may
use computer solutions but you must clearly show with hand calculation how this
problem is solved (calculation and diagrams: 5 marks)
3. Complete this cover sheet and bind it at the front your assignment (penalty for
incomplete or missing cover sheet:-1 mark)
4. Correctly understanding and final answer(3 marks)
