Subject: Slogan Competition Strengthening trust between consumers and traders

Heads of Schools are kindly requested to encourage students to take part in the Slogan
Competition. This competition, which is being held to celebrate World Consumer Rights Day, is
open to secondary school students aged 11 to 16 years.

Submissions, which are to be received by not later than Friday 25
th
February 2011, are to be sent
to fair.trading@gov.mt and must be sent using the school email address. No individual entries will
be considered.

Prizes will be awarded to the best three entries as well as to the school that submits the largest
number of entries. These prizes will be awarded on 13
th
March 2011 at the activity which is going
to be held at Ta Qali.

Kindly read the attachment which provides additional information and guidelines regarding the
competition.

Subject: Slogan Competition - Strengthening trust between consumers and
traders.


Strengthening trust between consumers and traders. This is the chosen theme for
this years celebrations of World Consumer Rights Day which was first commemorated
on 15
th
March 1962 by President John F. Kennedy when the first four consumer rights were
identified. Later on, these four rights became the eight we know today. These are:



The right to satisfaction of basic needs
The right to safety
The right to be informed
The right to choose


The right to be heard
The right to redress
The right to consumer education
The right to a healthy environment


To commemorate this historical event, the Consumer and Competition Department is inviting
students aged between 11 and 16 years to create a slogan on the theme: Strengthening
trust between consumers and traders Insau l-fiduja bejn il-konsumatur u n-
negozji.

To participate, students need to submit an original slogan illustrating this theme. All entries
are to be sent via email by the school and addressed to fair.trading@gov.mt by Friday 25
th

February 2011.

Rules

Entries may be either in Maltese or in English.
Slogans are to be original and not plagiarised.
All submissions are to have the name of the student, class, school name and contact
details of the Head of School (as per attached template).
Submissions will automatically become the property of the Consumer and
Competition Department and may be used for promotional purposes.
The best three entries will receive book tokens.
The school that submits the highest number of entries will be awarded a book token.
The decision of the jury is final.


Prizes

Book tokens of 30, 25 and 20 will be given to the best three entries placing 1st,
2nd and 3rd respectively.
A book token of 50 will be given to the school submitting the most entries.
A certificate will be given to all participants.

Prizes will be distributed during a family activity which will be held on Sunday 13
th

March 2011 between 12:00 noon and 6:00 p.m. in the picnic area adjacent to the BOV
Adventure Park at Ta Qali. The prizes will be awarded by the Hon. Chris Said,
Parliamentary Secretary for Consumers, Fair Competition, Local Councils and Public
Dialogue, who will also distribute gifts to the winners of competitions organised by the
Department in the Is-Sagtar magazine.

During the event information stalls highlighting the services offered by the Consumer and
Competition Department and other organisations will be set up. Students are encouraged
to participate in the organised activities which are of interest to the whole family.

Heads of schools are kindly requested to bring this information to the attention of all
teaching staff and to encourage students to participate in the slogan competition as
well as to take part in the event being held on Sunday 13
th
March 2011.
