Chosen to officiate the annual East - West Shrine Game later this summer are (left to right) Allie Olsen of Whitewater and
local football officials Tyler Partridge, John Jones, Ken Jansa, Stan Ozark, Jon Bengochea, and Dean Vegge (Dean, GHS
graduate of 1980, played a whale of a game in the East -West Shrine Game in 1979).

Local officials picked for the Granddaddy of em all

The rosters for the 68th Annual Montana EastWest Shrine Game are in, and the game will be played
Saturday, July 19th in Laurel.
And heres another special announcement: Our
local football refs are being honored to officiate
the East-West Shrine Game, which is known as the
granddaddy of em all.

It is one of the oldest games of its kind in the nation
and is the longest continuous Shrine game in the U.S.
This marks the first year that the officiating duties
for the East-West Shrine Game were open statewide,
and the Glasgow officials along with one of their
officiating buddies from the Malta crew were chosen
for the duties.
Theyve definitely got the experience to handle the
job, having done numerous playoff games and state

championships, the Knights of Columbus Badlands

Bowl (Montana All-Stars vs. North Dakota All-Stars),
the Class B All-Stars, and the Class C All-Stars. The only
All-Star game they have yet to do is the Class C 6-Man
All-Star clash.

Adding up the individual years put in by the Glasgow
crew, they have over 112 years of blowing the whistle:
Dean Vegge 27 years, Stan Ozark 24 years (he was 21 years
old when he started), Ken Jansa 21 years, Jon Bengochea
16 years, John Jones 14 years, and the young pup, Tyler
Partridge, with 10 years of service. Add in Whitewaters
Allie Olsens time Twenty-some years worth, he says
and youre knocking on the door closer to a century
and a half s worth of experience.

All of them have earned Master Official status.

VOTE KULCZYK for JUSTICE of the PEACE

My name is Ronnie Kulczyk of Glasgow, and I am running for Justice of the

Peace. I strongly believe there is a loop in the justice system and I plan to fix it.
I may not have the experience with the law, or background in the court systems
like some of my fellow candidates, but I strongly believe I am the right fit for
the job. Sometimes it isnt always best to have a background and experience;
we need new blood in that position with a clear outlook to change things.
My main goal is to be fair, I want to make sure that everyone is treated the
same. I have heard many times that someone was treated unjustly by the judge
because they werent liked or because of whom their family was. I myself know
how it feels to be judged by someone without them even knowing who I am or
what I believe.
I have lived in this community my whole life and love being a part of it. I
want to protect the citizens of this community and make it a safe place for
children to grow up in and become our future leaders. I have two children of
my own; they need a good example of how the justice system should work.
If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, feel free to contact me
by phone, email or my Facebook page. My phone number is 263-2377 and
my email is flicks@nemont.net. My Facebook page is Ronald W Kulczyk for
Justice of Peace.

Actually, these five local officals Partridge, Jones, Jansa,

Ozark and Bengochea will be heading out this weekend
to once again be part of the Bob Cleverley All-Star Football
Game. Formerly the Treasure State All-Star Game (Class C
8-Man), this contest is in its 31st year and will be played on
Bob Green Field at Montana Tech in Butte Montana.

Local officials continued from front

We love to do it, says Stan Ozark, Its for the kids
and thats what its all about.

Plus the fans are a lot further away, laughed Jonesy,
who has been a basketball referee for umteen years.

And being part of the game in the outdoor elements
make it all the more interesting. Allies most memorable
moment happened to occur on Scotty Field some four
or five years ago.

We had snow, rain and lightning, all in one game,
he explained of the wild adventure.
But, like many of the Glasgow officials, Allie is
ready to turn his whistle over to some new blood.

Its been a lot of fun, but one or two more years and
Im hangin er up, says Allie.
Indeed, there is definitely a need for new football
officials in the Glasgow and Malta circles. If youre
interested in reffing, theyd love to help you get started.
Two years will be spent in apprenticeship, doing
junior high games, JV games and such, followed by
getting certified by the MHSA and graduating to varsity
contests. Putting in five successful years earns you your
Master Official status.

All agree that it is a very rewarding experience, and
can even put a few extra dollars in your pocket during
the fall. If interested, give Ken or Stan a call.
