TOPIC OF MY MOOC
The MOOC that I have chosen is an
online course that is based on
Chemistry. The main topic of my MOOC
is Chemistry-Building Blocks of the
World. It is composed of different topics
in chemistry.
MOTIVATION OF CHOOSING THIS MOOC
There are various reasons why I have chosen this kind of MOOC.
Number one I am a student teacher who is majoring with physics, so
I need to gain skills and knowledge on the chemistry part of physics.
I am also interesting in Chemistry because it tells us how are things
made up of on earth.
Another thing I have selected this MOOC to improve my background
of chemistry since I was struggling with it when I was a high school
learner. In addition I have chosen this kind of MOOC in order to
assess myself in terms of how far am I with Chemistry, especially my
strength.
REFLECTION ON POSITIVES
What worked?
When doing this MOOC I have gained skills, knowledge,
strategies as well as experience.
The skills I have gained are problem-solving skills and
thinking skills.
I am now able solve the problems in chemistry, for
example converting moles to grams. Solving for the
unknown quantity using correct formulas.
The MOOC gave me hints as well as practice before
answering question.
REFLECTION ON POSITIVE CONTIUE
I have gained the knowledge of using
converting factors to work the problems e.g.
when calculate the volume, concentration and
moles of any substance.
I now know some strategies that I can use to
teach Chemistry at, for example to let the
learners memorize the element from one up to
element number 20 on the periodic table.
This helps by enabling them to work out the
stoichiometric calculations.
The videos assisted me a lot in answering the
questions

The MOOC was challenging
Requires me to think critically
It took a lot of time because it gave me the certain period to finish it.
It was having a lot of question to complete and required me use
resources such as the calculator and the periodic table.

It consists of difficult Chemistry which wanted me to use internet to find out
about it.
There were formulas but I was expected to use them.
THINGS I WERE GOING TO DO DIFFERENTLTY
Firstly I was going to locate enough time so that those
who take part can enjoy it.
I was also going to provide information such as formula
sheet, periodic table as well as resources such scientific
calculator.
Create games to help the participate to gain some skills
to answer questions.
Provide second chance for question.
DID I HAVE ENOUGH SKILLS TO COPE WITH
THE MOOC?
Yes I did have enough skills for this MOOC
because I studied Chemistry for 2 years now in
High education.
I did have skill solve, for example to make a
subject of the formula
Using the correct formulas is one of the skills that
I did have
Being able calculate for the unknown
NEW SKILLS
Actually I have gain few skills because I am a
science student therefore I have quite a lot of
skills that are applicable in Chemistry.
The new skills I have gained, number one is
working online to gain and test my knowledge.
I have also gained computer skills such as using
computer keys to progress on my MOOC.
As a student teacher it gave me reasoning and
thinking skills such as analyzing the question
carefully before attacking it.
THE WAY MOOC INFLUENCE MY FUTURE
TEACHING
MOOC did influence my plan for future teaching, mostly
in terms of the use of technology.
It made me to realize that when I teach, I will need use
technology to enhance and development a conducive
environment for successful learning to take place.
My plan was that once I become a teacher I will not
teach Chemistry part of Physical Science, but the MOOC
experience have changed that.
I now believe that I will be a good Chemistry teacher
INHERENT VALU E OF BADGES AVAILABLE
I believe that badges are important because to some
MOOC users because they encourage them to study
hard
Infect badges motivate the individuals to commit
themselves diligent in whatever they do because the
destination to success requires a hard worker.
I think sometimes Badges can enrich the Curriculum
Vitae of person.
It also make one enjoy the online course.
