ART is an adventure a visual medium
that thrills the eye & stimulates the senses.
Art takes us to places we never thought wed go.
Let this free, self-guided art and sculpture tour take
you somewhere youve never been Newton, Iowa!
Walk, bike or drive through this charming town lled
with spectacular art that appeals to every style and
sensibility. Come be inspired your adventure awaits!
NAVIGATING NEWTON
The City of Newton is laid out in an easy-to-follow grid
and quadrant pattern. For the purpose of this tour, and
to help guide you through nearly 90 installations of art
and sculpture, here are a few tips:
Jasper County Courthouse is the center point
located on The Square at 1st Avenue and 1st Street
(look for
h
on the maps)
Avenues run east and west
Streets run north and south
For example: If youre east of the Courthouse and
north of 1st Avenue, you would be in the Northeast
quadrant so a street address in that area would be
East xx Street North, or an avenue address would
be North xx Avenue East.
The Newton Sculpture Tour is divided into three
smaller tours: DOWNTOWN An exploration
focusing on sculptures and wall murals located in
the central part of town, most within walking
distance of each other. The INNER CIRCLE, a more
moderate jaunt; and the OUTER CIRCLE featuring
slightly more dispersed installations. For the more
distant tours, use a bicycle or car.

NEWTONS
The Iowa Sculpture Festival, Centre for Arts and Artists,
Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, ReNew
Newton, individuals and businesses, with the encourage-
ment and collaboration of the City of Newton, Iowa, have
joined to establish the First Avenue of Sculpture and Art
program with the intent to educate, excite and entertain
the citizens and visitors of Newton, Iowa.
A component of the civic effort Newtons Future: A Comprehensive Plan, the entities mentioned above developed a community
sculpture rental and sale program. Launched in 2014, the rst sites are listed above, with the goal of adding more in the
future. The rental program seeks to heighten awareness for public art in the community and selected works, submitted
through an annual call for entries, will be sited each April and remain in place until approximately November 1st.
PROGRAM
The Iowa Sculpture Festival gratefully acknowledges the
photographers who have volunteered their time and talent
to contribute to both the online and printed brochure:
Margaret Caldwell, Angela Carolan, Bob Hawkins, Kathy
Jones, John Lee, Kris Macy and Gayle Van Dyke.
We would also like to thank our community partners who
enthusiastically support the sculpture tour and the annual
Iowa Sculpture Festival.
