National Tournament in Draughts
After an executive meeting held on 6 June 2014 which comprised of ADMA president, General
Secretary, General Treasure and four senior players, It is finally fixed, Malawi 2
nd
National Draughts
Tournament will take place from 25 27 July 2014. For the first time in the history of draughts in
Malawi the champion will get away with a hoping K40 000. 00 cash Malawi kwacha and a beautiful
tailored gold medal plus a diploma of participation that will be officially signed by the sports
development officer alongside the president of the Association of draughts In Malawi, Misheck
Munthali. The runner up will get K25 000. 00 and third place will get away with K20 000. 00
This is a program that came out for the second national draughts tournament in Malawi.
Constructive Views that will make the showcase a marvel to watch were adopted. It should be noted
that the first national draughts competition took place in Lilongwe, capital of Malawi and this year it
is happening in Blantyre, commercial city of Malawi and next year the same competition will take
place in the northern region, Mzuzu city.

Dates (the dates have taken care of school calendar)
25 July 2014: Arrival Day, Briefing to rules and regulations including any other activity that will
mark the official opening of the showcase
26 July 2014: Kick off first round
27 July 2014: Continue with second round and finish / departure
Venue

Participants
Officially 10 players from each region who qualified during their respective regional competitions in
total we expect about 30 players.
Roles of ADMA on Participants
As directed by Malawi National Council of Sports that athletes must be accorded with good
motivating prizes it is the wish of ADMA not to spend too much on Transport,
accommodation and food to athletes.

However ADMA realises that some potential players are not capable of meeting all the
requirements to enable them attend such a big event.
In view of this ADMA would consider only number one players from each region thus
Northern, Central and southern Region in a place of sponsors, these are, Enock Makoka
(Central Region), Prince Mkandawire (Northern Region) and Jalasi Matiyasi (Southern
Region)
This means that these players will be fully sponsored in terms of transport to and from
venue, food and accommodation
This guarantees a representation from all the three regions and consequently making the
competition qualify to be called a national event
So this means that all other players will need to use their own transport to the tournament
ADMA will take care of Accommodation and Food for all participants including officials

Rules of the tournament
The following rules and regulations will be used to govern the National Competition
1. The play will be on individual basis
2. There will be two rounds
3. The play format is round robin classic game
4. In each round when players meet , only two games will be allowed to be played this means
that at the end of the tournament each player will have played four games against each
other
5. Players coming from the same region/area will crush first.
6. A win will earn 2 points and a draw 1 point and a loss will have zero point
7. A player with maximum points will be crowned champion of the Malawi 2

Draughts Tournament for 2014 to 2015
8. Tie breaker; in the event that two or more players have equal points the following will be
considered as criteria to break the tie
Head to head rule will have the first priority
In the event that 3 players have equal points but in a scenario that player A
beat player B who beat player C who in turn beat player A, head to head will
be invalid so instead sets scored will be used to break the tie, if in any case
they have equal scores then scores conceded will be used and the player
that conceded many scores will be on the losing side, if the tie still exists,
sudden death game will be given to such players.
If one of the players having equal points beat the rest then that player is
above the rest
9. 12 Count to force a draw will only be valid when the prospective winning side has crowned
three kings (Popularly known as SECTION )
10. Draughts Clocks will be available but will be given to that pair that will raise complaints
about much time delays this is because players from other regions have not trained on the
effective use of clocks
11. Touch and go is a must
12. No answering of phone call once the game has started
13. No conferring of any kind will be entertained
14. A player with white pieces will be the one to start the game
15. Capturing is mandatory and based on own choice

16. A breach to any of the rules will result into a warning and if repeated will lead into game loss
if it is in total misconduct then it will lead to a total disqualification
17. Draughts is a Gentleman's game. Be courteous. Play by the rules, and ask your opponent to
do the same-in a kind way.

Looking to the Future
Best 5 players will represent Malawi in the forth coming African Pool Championship that will take
place in Zambia in November (not confirmed yet as Zambia Draughts Federation are still waiting to
hear from their council)
