Switzerland

Switzerland is a federal parliamentary


republic. It consists of 26 cantons and Bern
is the seat of the federal authorities,
Bundesstadt. The country is situated in
Western and Central Europen. It is
geographically divided between the Alps,
the Swiss Plateau and the Jura. The Swiss population is mainly living on the plateau and the
largest cities are also to be found here.

As an international student you can
choose from 66 different bachelors at the
universitt Bern these include
archaeology, biology, computer science,
dental medicine, law, geography,
mathematics, psychology and medicine.

WHEN CAN YOU APPLY?
When you want to apply for a bachelor
study you must meet at least one of the following conditions:
1. You have a foreign degree from a university with a course of studies of at the least three
years. This university needs to be recognised.
2. You meet the country-specific admission requirements for your country.
3. If your school leaving certificate is not equivalent to a Swiss Matura you can still apply.
However you do have to pass the supplementary exam for university studies in
Switzerland.
You must be able to proof sufficient knowledge of the German language or take a German test
at the university of Bern. For some courses in the faculties of Humanities and Theology you
need to have knowledge of Latin and/or Greek.

TRANSPORT
There is only one flight that goes from Amsterdam directly to Bern this is a Skywork flight. It
takes one hour and 35 minutes to get there and the price is 161.03.
Another option is flying to Basel with easyjet for 53.48 and then taking the train to bern
which costs about 16.-. The total therefore will be 69.48 and it is way cheaper than a direct
flight.
The public transport in Bern is very efficient and distinguished by its punctuality and short
wait times. Bernmobil is the one providing the public transport. They offer day cards which
give you access to all forms of public transportation throughout the city of Bern. Normal tariff
for a ticket is CHF 11.80 which is about 9.70.

SCHOLARSHIP
The 'Abroad with HousingAnywhere.com' grant is for students who after their courses at the
exchange university abroad are complete, want to increase the experience abroad but do not
have enough financial support to do so.
Conditions:
Home university is Dutch and a member of the housing platform HousingAnywhere
Student is planning to travel/work after the courses of the exchange semester are
completed
Any nationality
The scholarship is 250.- per grant.
MONEY AND COSTS



Here you can see that Switzerland
is a very expensive country to live
in. A Big Mac is over 60% more
expensive than it is in the United
States. This makes Switzerland not
really favourable for students. The
rent of an apartment in a student
accommodation is about 400.- a
month, which also is quite high.
