Responsibilities
2. The Contractor is required to follow the directions of the Company and its appointed representatives in carrying out tasks relating to the pre-colonization exploration of exoplanet Gliese 581c, designated Ymir by the Company and hereafter referred to as Ymir.
3. The Company shall be responsible for
a) faster-than-light (FTL) transport to planetary system Gliese and orbital insertion at Ymir.
b) provision of life support in the orbital stations (air, water, power and food): the costs of which to be deducted from the Contractors eventual earnings from the mission.
c) insertion of surface team from orbit to Ymirs surface at a designated company Downdrop site (costs to be deducted from mission earnings).
d) advance of basic exploration equipment and data / telemetry packages as available (costs to be deducted from mission earnings).
e) extraction of surface teams from designated company Uplift site at mission termination (costs to be deducted from mission earnings).
Disclaimers
f) the company will not, in any circumstances, advance or underwrite the cost of repatriation of remains to Earth in the event of extreme negative outcomes to the Contractor, whether in orbit or on the planetary surface.
g) the Company retains the sole right to ownership and exploitation of any and all resources discovered by the Contractor; and this includes any artifact of an alien civilization that may be discovered; and also includes any scientic data or innovations resulting from the mission.
h) all payments for discoveries will be paid purely as a bonus: while the bonus scale is condential and subject to change without notice, a successful Contractor can expect to receive 10% or more of the projected value of resources and / or artifacts discovered. Previous bonuses have reached amounts of tens of millions of Solar dollars.
i) however discoveries, and therefore payments, are not guaranteed
j) and neither is survival.
k) the Company shall not be held responsible for anything that happens to any Contractor during the mission; and this includes extreme negative outcomes of the actions of either Contractors or Company employees, even where these actions are subsequently demonstrated to be ill-informed, negligent, or malicious.
