The course grade consists of one nal examination (o%), one midterm examination (o%) and several
homework assignments (adding up to zo%). The nal exam will be cumulative with an emphasis on the
later topics not covered in the midterm exam. The midterm will cover sections 1.z1.j. Homework prob-
lems will be mostly assigned from the textbook on a weekly basis. Each assignment shall be handed during
Discussion on the posted date (see attached schedule). No late homework will be accepted.
If you cannot come to the midterm or nal exams you have to make arrangements within the rst two
weeks of the course. We will only accept a very few reasons for not attending one of the exams. Those
reasons are limited to: religious reasons, interviews for scholarships, and participation in intercollegiate
sports.
Cheating will be taken very seriously. Every attempt to cheat will give you an automatic F for the
course; you will not be allowed to drop the course; and your case will be forwarded to the student conduct
committee.
Solutions submitted (both on tests and on HW assignments) need to be handwritten in a clear and
orderly fashion to receive any credit. Both for proofs and for computations, steps need to be justied and
explained.
