BUSING FOR 2014-2015 SCHOOL YEAR GOOD NEWS!
Over these past three years the need for transportation for our children has
become a great concern. Presently, we do not have busing for students living in the
Buena Regional Public School District nor the Millville Public School District.
This impacts 55 students. Though parents of Catholic school students receive
a state subsidy when a public school district will not bus their children, it does
place a great burden on parents who must make arrangements for the drop
off and pick up of their children on a daily basis.
Recently, parents were invited to respond to an online survey in regard to transportation needs. Over 108 parents
responded to the survey and overwhelmingly parents wanted transportation for their students, especially those
parents whose children live within the Millville and Buena Public School Districts. I am having discussions with
each public school district and the Sheppard Bus Company and believe there is a good possibility that busing will
be provided if the school is willing to make a change in the start and end time of the school day. I want you to be
aware of the possibility that our school day may start 25 minutes earlier with a starting time of 8:00 a.m. (instead
of 8:25) and a dismissal time of 2:20 p.m. Students will be able to enter the building at 7:45 a.m. This schedule
change will allow the bus company to make a bus run for our students from the Millville and Buena areas. Without
the time change of the start and end time of the school day no bus company will bid for our routes which would
mean that no busing will be available to our children with the exception of Vineland residents.
If the schedule does change, the school will continue to provide a Before School and After School program for
children. The Before School program will run from 7:00 a.m. until 7:45 and the After School Program will run from
2:20 to 5:30 p.m.
The school community will be alerted to any changes once the school has been contacted by the districts as to
whether busing will be provided next year. I was hoping to know before the end of the school year if busing was
available but unfortunately at this time I am still not certain. My hope is that the entire school community can
support this effort so that 55 of our students who are without busing can have access to transportation. For the
stability and sustainability of our regional school it is essential that transportation be provided for our students
who are members of The Parish of All Saints (Millville) and Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament (Buena) parishes.
If we cannot find a means for busing for students from these areas it is most probable that parents will not see
St. Mary School as an option for their students.
Sincerely,
Mr. Steven P. Hogan
Principal
