The cruise to Knotts Berry
Farm has to be described as a much
needed cruise for the Rancho
Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin’ Club.
Throughout the year so far we have
cruised to 31+ places and events and
some have been near and far, this
was indeed a much needed cruise
because we enjoyed the day at
Knotts Berry Farm and saw how
much it has changed.
Besides the admission price
could not be beat. Among several
other discounts Knotts had a special
promotion to where any U. S.
Veteran and a guest could get in with
free admission and also be able to
purchase up to 6 admission tickets to
the park at $15.00 each. This was
one of the reasons this cruised was
scheduled in 2009 for this month.
The membership list grew longer as
this cruise came around, but we had
it covered with the veterans going.
Tony Coe (A U. S. Marine) joined us
on our cruise and rode with Tommy
Dorsey in his cool blue old school PT
Cruiser and we were able to save
even more on the tickets.
In fact Tony had been to Knotts Berry
Farm on Monday so he kind of
became our tour guide as we walked
around the park. I was surprised that
the park was not so jam-packed with
visitors but instead it was at least 60
% full. It was towards the late
afternoon that it started getting
crowded mostly by adolescents
getting on the rides. I remember
back when Knotts only thrill ride was

TROPICANA CASINO CONT. FROM PAGE TWO Being
a cruisin’ club from Rancho Cucamonga some of the
club members had never been in a car club and have
never been to a car show or even cruise anywhere
which involves many vehicles that cruise together
on long trips. We have set rules we follow when
driving to and from a cruise which is called Cruisin’
Rules, and it explains the correct way to cruise as
far as explaining the rules for Changing Lanes for
Safety.
Our cruises mostly begin in the early
morning hours and continue throughout the day and
sometimes during the afternoon we again cruise
together to a restaurant or somewhere we can enjoy
a relaxing atmosphere and have a bite to eat before
heading home and calling it a day. A 2-way radio is
a requirement so that all cruisin’ club members
know what the lead or tail vehicle is doing at all
times and doing it safely.
Once or twice a year we do make such long
trips as a cruisin’ club to an event that is being held
out of state for a nice weekend. On this particular
cruise to Laughlin, Nevada the cruisin’ club traveled
from Rancho Cucamonga north on the I-15 and
turned onto I-40 towards Needles. We arrived at a
rest stop still on I-40 and took a short break. We
then continued about 1½ mile to the Golf Road exit
where we exited the I-40 and drove on a two-lane
highway. Golf Road goes for quite some time and all
you see are railroad tracks running alongside Golf
Road and the desert for miles all around. As we
traveled down the road we seemed to be on a roller
coaster because it has lots of highs & lows that go
up and down like ridges on a potato chip.
Further along the way on Golf Road we made
a right turn and then crossed over the railroad
tracks. Immediately on the left side is an old
abandon fire station, gas station and somewhat of a
motel. I estimate this was a one stop - last stop little
town before heading into the desert for some
travelers at some time in the past.
Golf Road is supposed to be a short cut to
Laughlin instead of continuing I-40 to Needles and
then heading north. On our way back we did take
Needles Highway to I-40 and then I-15 to home.
After driving a while on Golf Road we came to I-95
made a left turn and continued to I-163 where we
made a right turn and traveled through the hills and
down to the valley where we could then see
Laughlin, Nevada and Davis Dam on the left side.
What a breathtaking view this was of the Laughlin
and their Casinos.
Our cruisin’ club travels with two-radios set
on channel seven so that we are always in
communication with each other. The conversation
was of much anticipated excitement, glad to have
arrived, and ready to check-in and have some lunch.
The trip was awesome, the conversations were
interesting, and arriving at the car show we felt
pretty good being here. After finding our parking
area for Rancho Cruisin’ Club we proceeded to
check into the hotel and find our rooms. The prices
on the hotel restaurants were more down to earth
than for what we had to pay on our cruise to
Pechanga Resort & Casino. I believe a buffet should
be a bargain at best to attract people who would like
a good meal but at $22.50 per person at Pechanga
was too much. The Tropicana has many restaurants
but we chose the buffet - lots of selections.
Clem Lagrosa President of Island Cruiser’s
Car Club out of Yucaipa, Ca. organized this car show
and this being his first ever event (out of state) car
show, our cruisin’ club decided to schedule this as a
cruise for this year and cruise over and join in on the
festivities.
Rancho Cruisin’ Club does not have Meet &
Greets and/or go to car shows to compete for
trophies or awards, but instead we cruise and let the
people on the road view our PT Cruisers as we travel
to our event destination on week-ends. We however
will go to an event such as this one not necessarily
to compete but to enjoy the trip traveling with
friends who some have become like family. Our club
does not advertise our cruises because they are
only for active club members.
Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin’ Club
does have several PT’s that are customized to a
degree but mostly our PT’s are stock and look nice
just the way they are. Even so it was a big surprise
that our club took first, second, and third for the
stock trophy category at this nationally event car

(I) Alexander Mendoza also won, “Best
Theme by No Boundaries Car Club Trophy”. Most of
the membership also had good luck at the casino
where several of the club members won money
throughout the weekend. Our club is very different
than most because we do allow members to freely
join other clubs and park with the club of their
choice at any event.
Our only rule is that everyone is fully aware
of the club bylaws and follows them as they were
written by the club founder keeping with the best
interest of the club and the club members. Rancho
Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin’ Club would like to
thank Clem Lagrosa and friends for putting on such
a fine National Event Car Show in Laughlin, Nevada.
For sure our club will return in 2010 with most of the
rcptccc membership attending.
After the trophy award presentation on
Sunday we headed back home taking our time and
stopping along the way for lunch. We arrived home
around 6 p.m. That was definitely a good cruise and
a very nice weekend for the membership at Rancho
Cucamonga PT Cruisers Cruisin’ Club. Alexander

The Screamin’ Swing:

from 0 to 55 in just 3 seconds through a giant, seven-

This scream machine puts you head-over-heels six times
in less than 1 minute! Just when you think it's safe to
breathe, it gives it to you all over again -- BACKWARDS!
Tommy Dorsey, Phil Page and Tony Coe rode the
Boomerang ride and that is one fast ride to be on.
Everything that is on you has to be attached to your
Pony Express:
body or else you can wave good-bye as you travel at
Named after the famous Pony Express which promised
supersonic speed up and down and all around going
a faster mail service on the North American continent,
forwards and backwards and very high.
Knott’s Pony Express delivers a horseback relay at
speeds never imagined in the Old West! While sitting
astride one of the team’s 16 horses, riders leave their
post with their steed launching them at a speed of 0-38
mph in less than 3 seconds.

Sierra Sidewinder:
A new twist on traditional roller coasters that not only
offers speed, but spin! Each of the four cars will take
riders through a series of nose-dives, banks, dips, and
turns at a speed of 37 mph while continually rotating on
its axis!
Silver Bullet:
Silver Bullet, Knott’s first suspended coaster, sends
riders climbing to a height of 146 feet and soaring back
down an initial drop of 109 feet. Riders will spiral,
corkscrew, fly into a cobra roll, and experience
overbanked curves. Overall, riders will find themselves
upside down six times including one vertical loop of 105
feet.
Timberline Twister:
Twist and shout through the Camp Snoopy® wilderness
on this not-very-scary roller coaster created just for
kids.

On our way over to Knotts we took the I-15 south, I-91
west to Beach Blvd. The parking was plentiful and
spacious. We parked out PT Cruisers and went by the
list who was getting in for free and who was going to
purchase $15.00 tickets. Once in the park we followed
our self-made itinerary to the Mystery Lodge, Big Foot
Rapids, Pony Express, Wilderness Dance Hall, Screamin’
Swing, Calico Square, Boomerang, Wipeout, passed the
Stagecoach and then back to the entrance. Our cruisin’
club didn’t quite go on all of the exciting rides but we
did enjoy the park and will probably return next year.
We waited to regroup and left around 4:30 p.m.
The membership decided to go to Spires
Restaurant in Rancho Cucamonga and have some
dinner so as we drove out of the park we ended up on
the I-5 north. Instead of turning around we decided to
take the scenic route heading north-west. We went
Northwest on the I-5 then north on the 605 then west
on the I-10 freeways. We had quite a day on this
extraordinary cruise.
Spires’ restaurant always gives us first class
service and with each meal they included lentil soup or
vegetable soup and a full salad with a dinner roll, the
main course dinner with a desert of your choosing. The
prices range from $8.00 to $10.00. Our cruisin’ club has
a permanent reservation to the spacious back room
with several servers. We stayed about three hours
talking about anything and everything and also about
the cruises and just having a good ol’ time which was
refreshing because we hadn’t gotten together for at
