Media Release: Town Council Will Appoint Mr. Malcolm Morris as Chief
Administrative Officer (CAO) on June 16, 2014

The Council of Town of Smiths Falls is pleased to advise that Mr. Malcolm Morris
has accepted an offer of employment for the position of Chief Administrative
Officer. Mr. Morris will be officially appointed by by-law at the next regular
meeting of Council on Monday, June 16, 2014. He will commence his duties with
the Town on August 4, 2014.

Mr. Morris has invested most of his professional life in municipal government
leading and managing a wide variety of customer focused services to the public.
He has enjoyed nearly 25 years of experience in senior municipal administration
in eastern Ontario. He held the position of Director of Transportation with the
City of Kingston from 2006 to 2010, having moved upward in the Citys structure
throughout the 1990s. He has held Chief Administrative Officer portfolios with
local municipalities, most recently; he served as CAO for Tay Valley Township
with a full range of responsibilities including strategic planning and economic
development. Mr. Morris has focused his formal education in the areas of
organizational development, performance management, and conflict resolution
and expects to become accredited as a Certified Municipal Officer (CMO) over
the summer months through the Association of Municipal Managers Clerks and
Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO). He and his family live on and operate a century
farm in the Rideau Lakes area.

In accepting the position Mr. Morris stated: I look forward with great
excitement to the challenge of leading the administration at Smiths Falls

and working closely with Council to achieve their goals and aspirations for
the Town.

Mayor Dennis Staples stated: On behalf of our Council, staff and citizens I am
pleased to welcome Mr. Malcolm Morris as the new Chief Administrative Officer
for the Town of Smiths Falls. Mr. Morris brings an extensive and impressive set
of skills and experience as a senior municipal manager to his new role and will
provide the effective leadership to allow the Town of Smiths falls to successfully
achieve the many objectives and opportunities for the community.
