: Sciences
: Understanding cell division.
: A student should be able to,
1) State the definition of meiosis.
2) Describe the process of meiosis.
3) Explain the importance of meiosis.

Phase/Time
Orientation
(10 minutes)

Content
Kids have some part of their
mothers look and some part
of their fathers look.
Although they have same
parent but they look different
from each other.

Teaching and Learning

Activities/Scientific Skills
(1)Teacher show photos of parents
with their children and ask the
following questions.
Questions:
a) Do they look the same?
b) Why they have eye colour of
their father but the hair
colour of their mother?

Remarks
Thinking skills:
Generating ideas.
Attributing.
Teaching and learning
aid:
Pictures or photos.

(2) Through discussion and
questioning, pupils conclude that
although they have same parents, but
they look different between each
other.

Eliciting of ideas
(10 minutes)

Restructuring of
ideas
(40 minutes)

Meiosis produce four

daughter cells.

Daughter cells contain only

half the number of
chromosomes compared to
the parent cells.
The process of meiosis
involves 9 steps.

(3) Pupils are introduced what is

meiosis.
(1) Teacher will show the charts of
mitosis and meiosis process.
Questions:
a) What are the differences
between this two chart?
b) From this picture, can you
tell me how many daughter
cells are produced in chart 1
and chart 2?
c) How do you think the picture
in chart 2 produces four
daughter cell?
(2) Teacher will keep all your
answer first. Now we will learn
about meiosis.
(1) Teacher explain to the pupils
using the chart.
(2) Teacher will show the video of
meiosis process.
(3) Teacher explain the importance
of meiosis.
Questions:
a) From the video, how many
chromosomes that their
parents cell have?
b) Are daughter cells contains
the same number of
chromosomes compare to the
parent cells?
Assessment:
a) Pupils do the worksheet
given.
b) Pupils arrange the meiosis
process in the correct
sequences.

Thinking skills:
Generating ideas.
Comparing and
contrasting mitosis and
meiosis process.
Teaching and learning
aids:
Charts.

Science process skills:

Observing.
Communicating
Manipulative skills:
Answers the worksheet.
Thinking skills:
Making inferences,
Relating,
Making conclusions.

Reflection
(10 minutes)

Due to crossing-over, the

gametes produced by an
organism are all different in
their genetic contents.

Meiosis is a kind of cells

division that produces
gametes in different genetic
contents.

In pairs, pupils discuss the following

task.
Task:
By using cats as example how
meiosis maintains the chromosomes
number from generation to
generation?
(1) Teacher will review about
meiosis.
(2) Pupils reflect on their learning
and compare what they know before
and after the lesson.

Attitude and noble
values:
Having critical and
analytical thinking.
Thinking skills:
Making conclusions.
