Basic information
The Ebro Delta
Flora and fauna
Inland mountain ranges, the Ebro valley and
Delta plains offer extremely varied habitats
for vegetation. There ore there is an
abundance of different flora in Terres de
lEbre. .However, the most magnificent flora
can be seen on the Ebro Delta: a unique area
in Catalonia with innumerable species of
vegetation which have adapted to the
salinity of the sea here are around 1,000
species of vegetation typical of the climate in
the Mediterranean
- Gastronomy
As the Terres de l'Ebre has such a variety of
landscapes, there is a huge amount of
wonderful culinary produce - from the sea
and mountains which forms the base of
their tasty traditional cuisine and is one of
the main tourist attractions. The mountain
forests of Ports, interior dry plains, vegetable
gardens along the Ebro River and the Delta
plain offer lots of different produce:
mushrooms, vegetables, sweet or citrus fruit
or the typical rice from the Ebro Delta. All
of this is complemented by the flavours of
fish and shellfish
- Sightseeing
In the landscape of the delta lands are totally
flat which give it a distinctive appearance
and unique in Catalonia. On the inside we
found the extensive rice fields, changing
with the seasons (winter earthy, flooded
with water to the spring, green in summer).
On the coast are one of the most attractive
lake scenery of the Mediterranean, bordered
by large ponds canyissars and jonqueres.

It is situated 200 km southwest of Barcelona as an extensive, flat marsh area at the mouth
of the river Ebro. The delta is formed by sediments transported seawards by the river, a
process which began hundreds of years ago and still continues to change the shape and
appearance of the land.
The delta contains several natural habitat types such as lagoons of varying salinity and
depth, dunes, shallow beaches and bays, as well as the river and its riparian woodlands.
However, the delta is dominated by human activities, and the vast majority of the land is
used for agricultural purposes. Rice fields are dominating, but the delta also contains small
fruit plantations and salt pans, all adding to the deltas diversity.
