KINGS EDUCATION

INFORMATION AND FAQS FROM
NEW SCHOOLS EXHIBITION ON 9TH JUNE 2014

PROGRESS

Will the schools be ready in time to open in September?

We are confident that Kings School Nad Al Sheba will be ready for its
opening date of Sunday 14th September and Kings School Al Barsha for
its opening date of Tuesday 16th September 2014. Expected progress is
being made at both sites against the schedule of building works and
necessary permissions.

Will all facilities be open?

It is the intention that all facilities will be open from the outset and that is
certainly what we are working towards. We would be foolish to guarantee
that this will be the case. However, from September we are operating at
less than a third capacity in both the new schools. We have 8 spare
classrooms in each of the primary buildings at both of the new schools, so
we are confident the facilities will be more than adequate for the pupils
attending each of those schools.

Regarding Nad Al Sheba, the opening of the school is entirely on
track. There has been a slight delay to the steel works because of minor
design changes, but they will be complete in July and will not affect the
overall completion date.

As far as Al Barsha is concerned, the building will be ready in time to open
in September. We know now of two parts that will not open on time: the
auditorium and upstairs of the doughnut.

At the Chairmans request, the auditorium has been redesigned to
enhance the original specification. We will now have more space; the
stage has been improved, including the way it open to the outside area. It
will be ready by January 2015. Meantime, we have other huge spaces
including the black box facilities (drama theatre), so performing arts
activities will not be adversely affected in the first term.

The first floor of the doughnut and the Art/DT block: while the building
will be completed, the internal fit out will not. This is because there has
been a longer lead time for procuring some items. The upstairs of the
doughnut is essentially for use by the secondary school, however,
secondary students in September will not be affected as most of the
facilities upstairs are for older students who have not yet joined eg the
sixth form.

In terms of practicalities, on the ground floor of the doughnut and the
Art/DT block and Music/drama blocks there are 37 learning spaces (ie
classrooms, meeting rooms, breakout spaces). We will have 12 classes.
Therefore we will have more than enough space! In fact, more than
double the space we need.

The downstairs spaces include 4 Science labs, Food Technology and
Resistant Materials (woodwork and metalwork) too. So the specialist
facilities required for these subject will all be in place from
September. The first floor will be fitted out during the first year at Al
Barsha.

As we stand today, we have more than sufficient facilities on the ground
floor to meet the needs of the first year and delivery of our creative
curriculum will not be affected in any way.

Will the roads be safe to access and is there sufficient parking?

Yes, the road access to both new schools will be safe. The RTA is
responsible for ensuring safe access, including working traffic lights to
ensure safe access to both new schools and from the schools perspective
the clearance process with the RTA is taking place currently. There will
be ample parking spaces for cars at both sites, plus we have a drop off
zone where parents dont need to park and their children can exit the car
safely, assisted by our security guards, and make their way into school
independently, without having to cross any traffic.

Will school meals be available?

Initially all students will be required to bring their own snacks and packed
lunches. Within the first term we intend to offer the facility of purchasing
meals and snacks at school, in a similar way to the present arrangement
at Kings Dubai.

UNIFORM

What will be the uniform?

The uniform will be the same across the three schools, as it is currently at
Kings Dubai, featuring the Kings tartan. The only difference is that the
crest on blazers accessories will say Kings. Existing Uniform with
Kings Dubai on the crest will be purchased and worn by Kings Dubai
children, until the current stock held by our uniform supplier, has been
used.

All uniform can be purchased from our uniform supplier Zaks at the Beach
Centre branch and the Al Barsha branch. http://www.zaksstore.com Full
uniform lists and location maps will be put on the communicator within
the next week.

SPORTS FACILITIES

For both schools, it is our intention that the range of sports facilities
planned (outlined above) will be available when the schools open. This is
subject to real grass planting regimes, etc. For the number of students
attending the schools in the first year there will be more than sufficient
sporting facilities. We will post the map of the layout of the sports
facilities on communicator when the next versions are available and will
update you via the communicator as to progress of these facilities.

Will children be able to use the sports facilities eg tennis courts
outside of school hours?

It is not possible for children to have free access to he facilities outside
school hours because of liability insurance, first aid requirements
etc. However, we will have a range of after school clubs (both school run
and those managed by external providers) which will be on offer.

What support do you offer for working parents for whom these
times may be difficult?

We will be operating an early bird service at the start of the day where
parents can drop their children at school from 7.30am. Children may
attend this before school club until it is time to go to their classroom at
8am, ready for registration. It is not possible to provide an after school
care facility, although there will be a number of after school clubs and
activities on offer, for children in Year 1 and above.

Will a bus service be available?

We anticipate that bus services will start to some residential areas during
2014-15, although initially all pupils will come to school by car. Once the
school numbers make such a decision appropriate, we will review the
feasibility of a bus service and this will dictate when such a service will
start. The bus service will operate for children from Y1 upwards.

We are currently assessing the viability of a bus shuttle service between
Kings Dubai and Kings Al Barsha and hope to be able to offer this for the
first term.

COMMUNICATION

Between now and the schools opening, we will regularly be updating The
Communicator. Within the next week we will place information about the
school calendar, uniform, contact details and gallery images of building
work progress. Please ensure you have downloaded The Communicator
onto both your desktop and your mobile appliances.

Your child will be invited to visit the school the day before term
starts. The purpose of this will be to meet their new teacher and other
class members informally and to find out where their new classroom
is. We will provide you with more information about this session, via
email, by the end of August, along with a class list and a teacher
biography.

We are in the process of creating a new web site, to include more
information on the curriculum as well as other practicalities. We will
inform you via the communicator when this goes live.
