Control plane
The Control Plane *ncludes the Application Protocol9 i.e.

The User Plane *ncludes the /ata Stream5s6 and the /ata

TN control plane
The Transport Net&or( Control Plane does not include an!
Radio Net&or( a!er in+ormation9 and is completel! in the
Transport a!er. *t includes the ACAP protocol5s6 that isAare
needed to set up the transport 1earers 5/ata 2earer6 +or the
User Plane. *t also includes the appropriate Si)nallin)
2earer5s6 needed +or the ACAP protocol5s6.
The Transport Net&or( Control Plane is a plane that acts
1et&een the Control Plane and the User Plane. The
introduction o+ Transport Net&or( Control Plane ma(es it
possi1le +or the Application Protocol in the Radio Net&or(
Control Plane to 1e completel! independent o+ the
technolo)! selected +or /ata 2earer in the User Plane.
7hen Transport Net&or( Control Plane is used9 the transport
1earers +or the /ata 2earer in the User Plane are set up in
the +ollo&in) +ashion. .irst there is a si)nallin) transaction 1!
the Application Protocol in the Control Plane9 &hich tri))ers
the set up o+ the /ata 2earer 1! the ACAP protocol that is
speci+ic +or the User Plane technolo)!.
The independence o+ Control Plane and User Plane assumes
that ACAP si)nallin) transaction ta(es place. *t should 1e
noted that ACAP mi)ht not 1e used +or all t!pes /ata

Transport Net&or( Control Plane is not needed at all. This is

initiates the authentication. The si)nallin) durin) the
authentication process is transmitted transparentl!. RNC and
