SUMMER REPORTER
The third annual
Caroline Little Horn Jr.
Rodeo took place at the
Caroline Big Horn Stam-
pede grounds Monday.
Although there were a few
last minute dropouts, there
were 72 initial participants
registered from ages two to
16, all of which were from
central Alberta.
Organizer of the Little
Horn Jr. Rodeo, Rhonda
Odgers said she was
pleased with the turn out
considering there was rain
forecasted for the week-
end, I am happy with the
amount of people who
came out, she said.
There were four events
for junior rodeo par-
ticipants to choose from:
barrel racing, pole bend-
ing, thread the needle and
stake race. All contestants
receive prize money from
sponsorship and registra-
tion funds, a participation
prize and a rodeo buckle.
Its a lot of fun, kids re-
ally have a good time, says
Odgers.

Chase Stewart participated in the 11 to 12 year old category
during the figure eight competition.

The annual ceremonial
review for the Royal Canadian
Sea Cadet Corps (RCSCC)
Yukon 198 took place on May
14. The ceremony was to com-
memorate the cadets achieve-
ments between the ages of 12 to
18 years old within the Rocky
Mountain House area.
The ceremony included a
drill demonstration, speech
from special guest and re-
viewing ofcer Lieutenant-
Commander Bob Newton and
achievement awards for cadets.
In addition to the large fam-
ily and friend support, Lieuten-
ant-Commander Newton said,
I was impressed at their dress,
deportment and their march-
ing. Its no wonder they won
their Zone Drill Team Competi-
tion.
RCSCC Yukon 198 is a yearly
program that offers youth a
chance to develop good citizen
and leadership skills while
promoting physical tness.
Some activities include sail-
ing, joining various sports
teams and understanding naval
knowledge.
Lieutenant-Commander
Newton advised this years
cadets to not give up trying
to better yourself or your
corps, always aim higher
than the day before, and to,
Be proud, youre an amaz-
ing group of young Albertans
that show proof that todays
teenager can succeed if they
are willing to try. Bravo Zulu

Master Seaman Isaiic Pike was awarded best
second year cadet presented by Lieutenant
(Navy) Barry Pinnell.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Landen Rowland was
awarded best third year cadet presented by
Lieutenant (Navy) Barry Pinnell. Leading
Seaman Tristin Otteson, who was not present,
was awarded best first year cadet. Petty
Officer 1st Class Sydney Fillinger, who was not
present, was awarded best fourth year cadet as
well as a medal for four-year cadet service.
Master Seaman Ivan Christensen was awarded
most improved drill award presented by
Lieutenant (Navy) Ron Cowan.
Leading Seaman Kash Mooney was awarded
most congenial cadet presented by Lieutenant
(Navy) retired Rachel Pinnell.
Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class Jennifer Kubos
was awarded best fifth year cadet presented
by Lieutenant (Navy) Barry Pinnell. Kubos was
also awarded the Lord Strathcona award as
well as a medal for five-year cadet service.
Petty Officer 1st Class MaryLou Parks was
awarded most improved cadet award presented
by Lieutenant (Navy) Barry Pinnell. Parks was
also awarded a four-year cadet service medal.
Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew Fidelak
was awarded best-dressed cadet presented
by Constable Nick Munro. Fidelak was
also awarded a cadet medal of excellence
presented by Legion representative Comrade
Vic Michel.
Lieutenant (Navy) Barry Pinnell was awarded
a medal for 12 years of service presented by
Navy League Branch representative, retired
Lieutenant Commander Doug Bourne.
Petty Officer 1st Class Jarreth Saddleback
was awarded the best all around cadet award
presented by Lieutenant (Navy) Barry Pinnell.
Saddleback was also awarded a medal
for five-year cadet service as well as the
marksmanship award.
Lieutenant (N) Barry Pinnell presents Chief
