Hangzhou, China
Paris, China
This, I like it so much. A Paris replica in the
middle of nowhere in China.
Most of the report describe the place as eerie,
odd, bad, wrong (and whatever negative adjective
you can think of).
Not understanding that it is a sublime piece of
poetry by contemporary Chinese culture.
I wish I was there

Qiyun Deng's Graft
Here the description on the website:
Graft is a series of disposable tableware made of
bioplastic PLA revealing its sources materials - the
plants.
Texture and form in nature autonomously exist
with a function that we can borrow to serve the
purpose of artificial objects. A celery stem for
example, acts as handle for the fork; a petal of
artichoke then becomes the bowl of spoon.
By waking both visual and haptic sensation it
brings along a question: Will you throw they away
easily?

John Hejduk's Taxonomies
Today, I've got lost in John Hejduk's taxonomic

So nice, so powerful, so sharp...
I am quite in love with them

Special quote of the day:

Malm, Sweden
Rymdkapsel
After several years of playing obsessively
"Civilization", I spent the last couple of months
playing "Dots".
But then, my friend don't challenge me enough,
hence, once i reached a fantastic (at least for me)
659, I didn't have enough motivation to keep
playing.
Then, this morning, I've found: "Rymdkapsel" and I
am back to play in a very happy mood
http://rymdkapsel.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rymdkapsel
It's a great mix. Imagine Asteroids, Tetris and Sims
all the once.
"I believe in the social contract; therefore, I
teach. I believe that the university is one of the
last places that protects and preserves freedom;
therefore, teaching is also a sociopolitical act,
among other things".

Mokei Terada's Paper Worlds
Yesterday I went to see this exhibition about Naoki
Terada's "Mokei Terada" things (in Japanese
language, "mokei" means "model").
Quite fascinating indeed.
Checking his website, his world gets even more
fascinating

In mathematics, a Voronoi diagram is a way of
dividing space into a number of regions. A set of
points (called seeds, sites, or generators) is
specified beforehand and for each seed there will
be a corresponding region consisting of all points
closer to that seed than to any other.

Histomap. What a cool thing!
Stefanos facebook timeline 33/52 2013
This Histomap, created by John B. Sparks, was
first printed by Rand McNally in 1931.
This giant, ambitious chart fit neatly with a trend
in nonfiction book publishing of the 1920s and
1930s: the outline, in which large subjects (the
history of the world! every school of philosophy!
all of modern physics!) were distilled into a form
comprehensible to the most uneducated layman.
The 5-foot-long Histomap was sold for $1 and
folded into a green cover, which featured
endorsements from historians and reviewers.

Language boosts invisible
objects into visual
awareness...
Very nice article on the Guardian
Stefanos facebook timeline 33/52 2013
The philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein famously said
that, "the limits of my language mean the limits of
my world," meaning that we can only understand
the world through the language we use, and that if
our language does not include words for some
particular idea or concept, then that concept
cannot exist for us.

New York China Town
Museum
This is the best proect I've seen in the last three
months.
A new museum in NY City.
If you think that the "new" museum is Sejima's
one, you are so outdated.
The "New Museum", became horribly old since the
"Museum" popped up in China Town.

from the Seven Eleven where I was going).
All sudden, I stumbled upon one of those temples

It was very nice and very special. I guess it belongs
to the Church of Neon Light and Concrete Floors.
Very nice. Wish you were here...

A Solar Bell
Visionary artist Tomas Saraceno has built a flying
sculpture that is purely fueled by wind and solar
energy. Saraceno built the Solar Bell in hopes of
creating architectural structures that defy gravity
by hovering mid-air like observation towers. His
utopian idea of building whole cities that could
exist in the clouds is executed in his project,
Cloud City.

Yes, Area 51 exists!
It's a good day to be a conspiracy theorist. Ending
a decades-long game of leak after leak without
any official word, the US government has finally
admitted the existence of Area 51 in a recently
declassified CIA report detailing the history of the
U-2.

RAF Terror im Sdwesten
This is special stuff.
In Stuttgart's House of History (James Stirling's
building), they have a stunning exhibition on
1970's terrorism, or as they say, the "Bleierne Zeit"
(time of lead).
Very impressive and very daring. I wish something
similar would be possible in Italy (but I know this is
no).

Hyperloop
Elon Musk, electric-car entrepreneur (Tesla
Motors) and proponent of private colonies on Mars,
now plans to redesign the railway.
Half a century after they were pioneered in France
and Japan, could high-speed trains be coming to
America? Last year Californias legislators gave
$7.7 billion to a project called California High
Speed Rail (CHSR). If and when it is completed it
will connect San Francisco to Los Angeles, with
branch lines to Sacramento and San Diego.

Who is Satyajit Ray?
Stefanos facebook timeline 33/52 2013
Satyajit Ray was an Indian filmmaker, regarded as
one of the greatest auteurs of world cinema. Ray
was born in the city of Calcutta into a Bengali
family prominent in the world of arts and
literature. Starting his career as a commercial
artist, Ray was drawn into independent filmmaking
after meeting French filmmaker Jean Renoir and
viewing Vittorio De Sica's Italian neorealist 1948
film Bicycle Thieves during a visit to London.
Ray directed 36 films, including feature films,
documentaries and shorts. He was also a fiction
writer, publisher, illustrator, calligrapher, graphic
designer and film critic. He authored several short
stories and novels, primarily aimed at children and
adolescents. Feluda, the sleuth, and Professor
Shonku, the scientist in his science fiction stories,
are popular fictional characters created by him.
