Rockbund Art Museum
My Self into (Glamorous)
Contemporary Art
Here I am.
Standing in the middle of Paola Pivi's 'It's a cocktail
party' (2008).
Nine electrical motors, pumping water, red wine,
olive oil, black ink, glycerine, woodruff, espresso
coffee, milk, facial tonic. All of this into the old
Royal Asiatic Society building (Bund, Shanghai),
recently restored by David Chipperfield.
Thanx to Legrenzi Susanna for the cute portrait...

Fancy Dinner with Pan and

One of the nice things of this trip, is to be always
with nice people. It doesn't happen all the time,
and I like it pretty much...

Share But It's not Fair
I've spent some hours to see this exhibition by
Paola Pivi. Quite ok, indeed. Also the museum
(renovated by David Chipperfield) was quite ok.

factory. Production, offices and showroom.

Mirroring
Today they took me to Neri & Hu office. Nice
architecture (they do), but actually, nothing new.
They do appropriate stuff to be invited in
international competitions.
After five minutes it gets kind of boring.
But in their office there are a lot of interesting
things to look at. Like this window (right),
mirrored twice (on a door in the center and on a
mirror to the left).

Feeling Like in a Bruce Lee
Movie
In my hotel, there are moments when I feel like in
a Bruce Lee movie
I hope the gent didn't notice me (while taking a
picture of him). Most likely he is some topcat from
Macau mafia...

By the Way...
I found this scientific paper where they say that it
s also been proven that people who dont smoke,
finally the also die
(quite impressive, isn'it?)
Since the day of my birth, my death began its
walk. It is walking toward me, without hurrying".
This was said by Jean Cocteau. And I guess it
applies to us all.
Regarding pain, one nice thing of living in
modernity is that we have access to morphine.
Also smokers.

Kickstarter (Some Interesting
Data on)
Thanks to a link of Antonio Scarponi, we have a
very interesting insight on how to go through
Kickstarter in the best way

Then I fell in love
(with a working class hero).
We were in this factory, I was outside, horribly
hot, sweating like a pig in a sauna. All sudden I
had this vision, of a very elegant lday. The way
she walked, the way she dressed.
Maybe the umbrella.
By the time i took the picture, she was gone. And
my love ended there

On Being Cute (Chinese Style)
So, we were in this top company. One zillion
furnitures built, shipped and sold every day. The
world is theirs.
Beffore to enter the showroom there is this long
corridor with their finest stuff on show. Each
furniture has got its own litte frame. Hundreds
frames.
Sometimes China becomes so strange that all
sudden it is extremely poetic (and I like it very
much).
Maybe the furniture are ghastly (actually they
are), but the whole thing is fantastic!

Xibo
Xibe (Sometimes I Don't Like
Minorities)
One evening we are taken to eat at this Xibo
restaurant, very good food, specialty of the Xibe
minority group.
The food was good, but the people running the
joint were horrible idiots. We ended up having a
great quarrel and we left.
Never again.
The manager of the place, she likes the idea of
running an international restaurant, but her
mindset is finetuned to 500 years ago. Very
charming (unless you are in her restaurant).
Mmmmmmmhhhhhhh....

Darling...
Darling, you promised me we would have been
living in a glamorous place, like being in Venice
- Yes, indeed!
- So, where the fuck is our house? Where are the
houses? Where is Venice?
- Boop. This I don't know. You know, they are
Italians

Some More Crap
We are still in Gregottiville, in Shanghai outskirts.
This is the canal where the Chineses can feel what
it means to be in Venice. Bravo Maestro!
(if he was to make ghastly things only in Italy, that
would be very unfair).

Italian Crap for Chinese
Market
Normally we have this idea of Chineses making
crap and selling it to the West. Once you get to
Pujiang New Town you understand that sometimes
the model is flipped.
This place should be a great new town designed by
Vittorio Gregotti and Gregotti Associati to bring
the Chinese into wealth and glam.
I've rarely seen something worse in my whole life.

Stefi goes lecture.
Then, once in a while, we (myself, Legrenzi
Susanna and Giovanni Muzio) had to give a lecture.
Pan Gu and her father organized a whole program
of lectures, visits, this and that. Quite nice,
always curious.
Here is myself in a poster with a big Chinese flag
ready for an audience of interior designers and
academics.
Btw. I love when Photoshop filter gives poeple
some kind of horrible skin disease.

Up and Down
Thanks to Pan Gu and her father, we spent quite a
lot of time going around the city. Compared to
when I came some years ago, the whole thing got
to be more impressive.
As big as I remembered but better organized.
Shanghai it is actually very impressive (but this,
we knew...)

This flower thinghy is very
important.
Apart from being a very odd monument (I guess it
must be something to honor the glorious flower-
girl), this thing is very important to me because it
is my main landmark (actually, the only landmark)
to move around Shanghai.
Once I see this, I know how to get home.
Otherwise...

An Afternoon at the
Sculpture Park...
Chineses are good at almost everything. Sculptures
is not their best (I would say). Anyway, an
afternoon at the sculpture park was quite
interesting (to be done once, without necessity for
a second time...)

The Castle and the High Wire
Also to go around by train it has been something
quite nice.
Until now, I never have been outside the big cities
(Beijing and Shanghai). Very interesting landscape,
a lot to see.
Here I like very much this fancy castle framed by
these enormous high-voltage towers.
