Syracuse University Libraries
Marcel Breuer Digital Archive
The other day I received the link to the Marcel
Breuer Digital Archive: http://breuer.syr.edu/
To give you an idea: "The Marcel Breuer Digital
Archive represents a collaborative effort headed
by Syracuse University Library to digitize over
30,000 drawings, photographs, letters and other
materials related to the career of Marcel Breuer,
one of the most influential architects and
furniture designers of the twentieth century"

(from the website)
In the weekend I've spent some time on it, and I
can say it is one of the best digital archive I've
ever seen (together with Archigram's one and few
others).
Here a link with a folder with some of Breuer's
early chairs:

Piacenza
Huginn&Muninn Sauna
Designed by Duilio Forte and his atelier,
Huginn&Muninn is an entirely handmade outdoor
sauna in spruce wood which accommodates two
people.
According to the Scandinavian tradition, it is
powered by a wood stove. Its wall portholes frame
the sunsets on the Piacenza hills, and a warm light
floods in the small space.
Huginn and Muninn mean thought and
memory. Those are the names of the two
ravens of Odin. Every day he sends them flying
over all the earth, and they come back and tell
him everything they have seen and heard.

Design Museum iPad App
Writes Dezeen (precise and quick as usual):
"The Design Museum in London launches its Design
Museum Collection iPad app today that features 59
objects from their collection, including interviews
with museum director Deyan Sudjic.
In this first movie in a series taken from the app,
weve compiled entries about classic design for
driving. Pieces discussed include the Vespa
Clubman scooter, British traffic lights, Mobil Oil
petrol pump and a model car built from a sketch
by Le Corbusier. You can also watch this movie on
Dezeen Screen.
iPhone and Android versions will be launched in
the next few months.

Tone on Tone
I keep receveing beautiful collages from
Beniamino Servino. This one is "tone on tone".
He writes: "In spring, from april till may, the
abandoned landscape is colored with so many
different greens, you cannot count them. So many.
And each green has its own place.
Then there is a list, but this is impossible for me
to translate. Henceforth i cut and paste it in
Italian:

If this, than that (aka IFTT).
Very useful, very simple, very free. What a nice
project, indeed!
This is how it is explained:
Put the internet to work for you by creating tasks
that fit this simple structure: "if this then that".
Think of all the things you could do if you were
able to define any task as: when something
happens (this) then do something else (that).

The Simpsons Guide to Art
History
The Simpsons have been on air since 1989. Just
think about that for a second. Over 500 episodes
chock-full of pop culture references, current event
bits, film allusions, and art history homages, so
very many art history homages. Ay caramba!
Alright. Lets approach this the only way one can
with conspicuous subjectivity. From Boschs hell
to Warhols wrath to Dals delights, behold: Our
ten favorite art history moments from The
Simpsons, selected for their authenticity, context,
visual loyalty, and utter ridiculousness. Feel free
to argue. Really, do.

River Thames
London's tempo is 122.86
beats per minute.
Last month, David Byrne resided for three days in
a one-bedroom art space resembling a riverboat...
that happens to be docked on the roof of Queen
Elizabeth Hall in London.
While participating in a residency for the project A
Room for London, he created a new sound
installation titled "Get It Away". Byrne used field
recording equipment to capture the city's natural
noises, which he turned into the piece.

The other day, I took my Bocconi students at

well as Giovanna, Antonella, Dianella.

In my design course, the nicest is when I explain
the students the mythology of modern design. It's
like Homer, exactly the same. You have to key
figures: Hector (Sottsass) and Achilles
(Castiglioni).
But then, not like in Iliad, they don't try to kill
each other, but they were two good friends.
So, in my class there is always this day we go off
to see the Castiglioni world (see post before) and
a beautiful house designed by Sottsass. Hector and
Achilles, facing each other, few hundred meters
apart, in downtown Milan.
Very lovely. Students like very much, and I like it
very much as well...

of Sottsass house: http://www.facebook.

Which brought ten thousand pains to the

And cast the souls of many stalwart heroes
