LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI NATIONAL MEMORIAL TRUST

Lal Bahadur Shastri National Memorial Trust was founded in 1966 immediately after the
untimely demise of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri in Tashkent. Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi
was the first Chairperson of the Trust with Smt. Lalita Shastri (w/o Prime Minister Shastri) and
25 other eminent public figures as the Trustees. Successive Prime Minister have been the exofficio Chairpersons of the Trust.

Objects and purpose of the Trust


1) To conduct and promote constructive activities of all types which were so dear to the
heart of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri.
2) To promote village uplift work and rural reconstruction so that those living in the villages
are enable to lead a richer and fuller life.
3) To better the lot of the depressed and poorer sections of society so that they may be able
to play their rightful role in the community and give their best to the country.
4) To give life and substance in the fullest sense to Shastrijis inspiring slogan and call to
nation Jai Jawan Jai Kisan
5) Propagation and fulfillment of Shastrijis high ideals and principle of life, especially
simplicity, modest and humility, service of society, dedications to duty, and supreme
concern for the welfare and well-being of others.
6) To keep alive and foster the sprit of the Tashkent Agreement for which Shastriji gage his
life, and thereby to spread far and wide the message of peace and goodwill among nations
and peoples.
7) To take all possible measures to promote furtherance of the above objectives, and to
commemorate the great services of Shastriji to the nation by among others, the
following:a) Promotion and encouragement of agro-based industries, cottage industries,
handicrafts and other useful arts and crafts, especially in the villages.
b) To participate in and encourage all measure leading to increased production of
food for the community.
c) To instill in the common people a feeling of devotion to the country, and of
discipline and dedication which will enable them at stand united, alert and
resolute in the face of all dangers both within the country and outside.
d) To encourage bright young student especially from the poor sections of the
community by grant of scholarships and awards.

e) Establishment and maintenance of grants to hospitals and charitable institutions


whose goal in service to the community.
f) To publish in various languages letters, manuscripts, photographs and other
matters bearing on his personality with a view to spread the ideals of Lal Bahadur
Shastri.
g) To train young men and women to carry on the aforesaid activities and ot create a
cadre of devoted workers whose first concern will be service for the welfare of the
community.
h) To incorporate promotion of Khadi and Village Industry including imparting
training, peace and communal harmony, educational and institutional programmes
and research in the field of social change and public policy.

Appendix-III
Project Synopsis
Title of the Project: Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial lecture, 2012

Lal Bahadur Shastri National Memorial Trust was founded in 1966 immediately after the
untimely demise of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri in Tashkent. Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi
was the first Chairperson of the Trust with Smt. Lalita Shastri (w/o Prime Minster Shastri) and
25 other eminent public figures as the Trustees. Successive Prime Ministers have been the exofficio Chairpersons of the memorial Trust.
To commemorate the death anniversary of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the 2nd Prime
Minister of India, on 11 January, LBSNMT organizes a memorial lecture. Eminent scholars,
administrators, spiritual leaders, social worker, politician were invited to deliver this prestigious
lecture in the past, to mention a few names such as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of
India, Spiritual leader of the Tibetan Buddhist-Dalai Lama etc.
A large number of VVIPs, VIPs, diplomats and admirers of Lal Bahadur Shastri attends
these lectures. This year we are expecting that about 350 guests will attend the lecture.
Estimated total cost for the memorial Lecture is Rs.4,00,000/-. The Trust is in a position
to bear expenses of upto twenty five percent of the total cost. Hence, is the request to the
Ministry to sanction the remaining expenses of Rs.3,00,000/-.
The programme is being executed by staff and honorary members of the LBSM.
Therefore, no one will be appointed separately for executing the project.

Details of the Project
Title of the Project: Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial lecture, 2012
Objective: To commemorate the death anniversary of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the 2nd Prime
Minster of India, on 11 January, LBSNMT organizes a memorial lecture. The themes are
generally of current relevance and national importance.
Date of the Programme: 11 January, 2014, from 05.00.08.00 pm
Expected number of guests: 350 approx.
Estimated cost of the Project: Rs.4,00,000/- (Rs. Four Lakhs)
Expenses to be incurred by the trust: Rs.1,00,000/- (Rs. One Lakh)
Requesting Grant amount from the Ministry: Rs.3,00,000/- (Rs. Three Lakhs)
