EMPLOYMENT HISTORY_______________________________________________________

2007 - 2009 Director – Social Inclusion (FÁS, Baggot Street, Dublin 2.)

• Develop policies and procedures that enable disadvantaged groups avail of training programmes and
community employment services
• Fund special initiatives proposed by external bodies to improve the accessibility of people with
disadvantages to the labour market

1988 – 2009 Regional Director – Midlands Region (FÁS, Athlone, Co.Westmeath.)

Responsibility for the provision of a full range of labour market services including guidance, vocational
training and employment schemes, to meet skills requirements in the midlands region. Core tasks
included:

• Management of employment services in the Midlands


• Assessing labour market needs within the region
• Seeking employment for trainees through the international EURES network
• Recruiting skilled personnel abroad to meet regional labour market needs

1983 – 1988 Regional Manager – North Western Region (ANCO, Co.Sligo.)

Responsibility for the provision of ANCO services in nine counties, incorporating five vocational
training centres. Core tasks included:

• Managing the delivery of vocational training programmes through a network of ANCO Training Centres
• Identifying the skill needs of local industry
• Devising appropriate training courses
• Resourcing the delivery of FÁS programmes
• Evaluating the impact of training courses

1974 – 1983 Personnel Officer (ANCO, Baggot Street, Dublin 4.)

The recruitment and selection of ANCO Training Instructors, specialising in Industrial Relations

1972– 1974 Curriculum Designer (ANCO, Baggot Street, Dublin 4.)

Produced ANCO training programmes geared towards preparing participants for working life. These
programmes were delivered across all vocational training centres.

1969 -1972 Training Advisor (ANCO, Baggot Street, Dublin 4.)


• Administration of the levy/grant training scheme, evaluating and grant aiding company submissions
for training needs
• Promotion and establishment of systematic training across medium and large Irish
companies

• I have been a member of the Irish Institute of Training Development (formerly IPM) for over 35
years.

• Throughout my career I have successfully completed a wide range of training courses including;
principles of systematic training, learning methodologies, principles of assessment of vocational
training and quality assurance in vocational training.

ACHIEVEMENTS_______________________________________________________________

• During my administration, the Athlone Training Centre was awarded the Q Mark. It was the first
educational or training institute in Ireland to receive this award.

• I have also spoken on a number of occasions at International conferences, most recently on the topic
of Social Inclusion in Sydney, Australia.
