A Train-the-Trainer Model to Get Your Admin Team Ready for
Fall PVAAS Teacher Specific Reporting
Full-day session offered on-site at your local Intermediate Unit

Is your administrative team ready for your teachers to receive their first PVAAS teacher
specific reporting this fall 2014?
Are your LEA/district administrators and principals prepared to respond to the most
common questions about PVAAS teacher specific reporting?
Do your principals know how to use PVAAS teacher specific reporting to guide positive,
meaningful, and productive conversations about professional growth with teachers?
These sessions are designed to get your LEA/district ready!

Audience: Four (4) member LEA/district administrative team (could include Superintendent, Assistant
Superintendent, Principal, Assistant Principal, Director of Curriculum & Instruction, Director of
Professional Development, Director of Special Education/Pupil Services, subject area supervisor)

Goal: Prepare a leadership team to present and use PVAAS teacher specific reporting with staff. The first
half of the day will focus on training LEA/district staff (principals and teachers), including strategies for
responding to common questions and activities that reinforce learning about PVAAS. Participants will learn
about the supplementary resources and reference materials available for a deeper understanding of the
PVAAS methodologies. The second half of the day will be devoted to having one-on-one conversations with
teachers about their PVAAS teacher specific reports as part of the Educator Effectiveness System.

Location: On-site at local Intermediate Unit
Date: Dates at each IU are listed beginning on the next page
Registration: 8:30 - 9:00 a.m.
Session: 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (lunch will be on your own)

Prerequisite: To gain the most benefit from this session, participants should be familiar with the concept
of how PVAAS measures growth. To fully maximize your time in this full-day session, we ask each
participant to come prepared by viewing the following PVAAS Virtual Learning Modules (found under the
Concept of Growth category on the PVAAS site):
Introduction to Measuring Academic Growth (13 minutes)
Connections to Value-Added Reporting (30 minutes)

Materials Needed: Participants should bring a laptop or tablet, along with their PVAAS username,
password, and PPID to access reporting. A demo site will be available to use during the training.
For Windows users, PVAAS site is best viewed with the latest version of Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google
Chrome. For Mac users, the PVAAS site is best viewed with the latest version of Safari, Mozilla Firefox, or Google
Chrome. (SAS EVAAS continues to support Firefox, Safari, and Chrome on machines running either Windows 7 or
later or any version of Mac OS X. The supported versions of Internet Explorer are 8 or later, on machines running
Windows 7 or later.)
NOTE: Due to limitations in room availability and space, we are limiting registration to 4 people per district/LEA.
Choose team members who can most effectively train other administrators and teachers in your LEA/district. If all
LEAs in your IU region do not use their four (4) seats, the IU will let LEAs know about this availability.

PVAAS Teacher Specific Reporting:
Professional Growth, Not Gotcha
Half-day sessions offered on-site at your local Intermediate Unit

Audience: These sessions are designed for teachers who receive PVAAS teacher specific
reporting. LEAs/districts sending teachers to the session are encouraged to include a district or
school administrator with their group, as questions may arise regarding district/school practice or
policy.

Description: These half-day sessions will provide teachers with a review of the concept of
growth as measured by PVAAS, and introduce the PVAAS teacher specific reports that are a direct
result of the PVAAS Roster Verification process. Teachers will develop a foundational
understanding as to how PVAAS measures growth for PVAAS teacher specific reporting. The
session will include a complete review of the PVAAS teacher specific value-added report, as well as
available diagnostic reporting at the teacher specific level. Teachers will have the opportunity to
review their own PVAAS teacher specific reporting if they choose, or use a demo site if they prefer
to review their reports privately. Teachers will have an opportunity to ask questions throughout
the session.

training.

Teachers and administrators are reminded that PVAAS teacher specific reporting will
NOT be used on a teachers final rating form until a PVAAS 3-year rolling average is
available. The first PVAAS 3-year rolling average will be available after SY15-16.

advance. A summary listing of all webinars and information on how to join is included on the next
page. Descriptions and the suggested audience for each session are included on the pages

New! PVAAS Export Function Webinar (Fall 2014)
In August 2014, the PVAAS system will add the functionality to export specific
PVAAS data elements from District/School Value-Added Reporting and Student
Projections. This one hour webinar will provide participants with an overview
of the new PVAAS Export functionality. This will include a review of the data
elements available for export and an explanation as to which PDE User account
types have rights to use the Export function. This session will also include a
demonstration of the PVAAS Export feature. Participants will have time for
questions and answers during the session.

Audience: LEA/district-level staff who will have the role or responsibility to utilize the PVAAS Export
function to export data from the PVAAS website for your LEA/district.

Using and Understanding PVAAS Webinar Series
(Fall 2014)
These three (3) webinars are each 60-minute sessions focused on various types of
reporting available in PVAAS. Although these sessions are designed as a series to
help educators make better use of PVAAS reporting and bridge the various reports
for curricular and instructional decision-making, the sessions can be viewed as
stand-alone sessions as well. For information on how to join live, or view a
recorded session, please see pages 10-11.

Audience: These sessions are designed for administrators and teachers new to PVAAS, or for those who
need a refresher on PVAAS. These sessions are also intended to serve as a foundation for understanding
PVAAS prior to participation in PVAAS professional development sessions offered for districts and schools
at local Intermediate Units in the fall of 2014.
Using and Understanding PVAAS: A Focus on District and School Reporting
This session will provide an overview of the growth reporting on groups of students at the district, school,
and grade levels. This will include a discussion of both value-added and diagnostic reporting. Participants
will review the web-based reporting provided to Pennsylvanias schools districts, as well as the meaning
and use of the data for local decision-making in the context of multiple measures. Additionally, a discussion
of how the PVAAS district and school reports can be bridged and used with PVAAS reports at the teacher
and student level will be shared. Opportunities for questions will be provided.

This session will provide an overview of the PVAAS teacher specific reporting reflective of the SY13-14.
This session will guide participants in understanding the various PVAAS teacher specific reports and how
they can be used as a source of continuous improvement and professional reflection. Additionally, a
discussion of how the PVAAS teacher specific reports can be bridged and used with other PVAAS reports
at the district, school, and student level will be shared. Opportunities for questions will be provided.

will review the web-based reporting provided to Pennsylvanias schools districts, as well as the meaning
and use of the data for local decision-making in the context of multiple measures. Additionally, a discussion
of how the PVAAS projection reports can be bridged and used with PVAAS growth reports at the district,
school, and teacher levels will be shared. Opportunities for questions will be provided.

PVAAS Account Management Webinars
Join us during these PVAAS account management webinars for information and help
preparing accounts and access for the fall 2014 PVAAS reporting release and spring 2015
Roster Verification. Preparing PVAAS accounts early will save valuable time later for your
teachers and administrators! For information on how to join a live session, or to view a
recorded session, please see pages 10-11.
Account Management for Access to PVAAS District, School, Student and/or Teacher
Specific Reporting (Fall 2014)
PVAAS district, school, student, and teacher specific reporting will be released in fall 2014. Prepare now to
ensure that your LEAs current teachers and administrators have the correct access to PVAAS reporting.
These sessions are designed to assist LEAs in taking inventory of existing PVAAS accounts, modifying
existing accounts, and using PIMS for staff account creation. LEAs will be provided with an understanding
of the PVAAS account management system, strategies to manage PVAAS accounts, and resource materials
to assist with account management. Time will be allotted for questions.

Audience: These sessions are designed for lead LEA/district administrator(s) and LEA staff responsible
for PVAAS user account management, including the submission of staff emails via the PIMS Staff Template.

NOTE: LEAs may assign Account Management permissions to staff at the district or school level. This
permission is assigned independent of a users assigned access to school, student, and/or teacher specific
reporting. In other words, a user may have access to manage PVAAS accounts only, without also having access
to PVAAS reporting. Please keep this in mind when considering individuals in your district who could provide
PVAAS account management support, but who may not need/ should not have access to PVAAS reporting.

Account Management for PVAAS Roster Verification (Spring 2015)
PVAAS Roster Verification occurs in spring 2015. These sessions are designed to help LEAs prepare in
advance for the Roster Verification process. Time spent preparing PVAAS accounts for LEA staff for PVAAS
Roster Verification will save staff time and frustration during spring 2015 PVAAS Roster Verification. This
includes saving time for teachers, school administrators, district administrators, and others who support
the process. LEAs will be provided with strategies to manage PVAAS accounts for Roster Verification. Time
will be allotted for questions.

Audience: These sessions are designed for lead LEA/district administrator(s) who are overseeing
implementation of PVAAS Roster Verification in spring 2015, as well as LEA staff responsible for PVAAS
account management, including the submission of staff emails via the PIMS Staff Template.

NOTE: LEAs may assign Roster Verifier permissions and/or Account Management permissions at the district
or school level. These permissions are independent of a users assigned access to school, student, and/or
teacher specific reporting. Please keep this in mind when considering individuals in your district who could
provide PVAAS account management and/or roster verification support, but who may not need/ should not
have access to PVAAS reporting.

PVAAS Roster Verification Training Webinars
(Spring 2015)
PVAAS Roster Verification training is critical, as school year 2014-15 PVAAS teacher
specific data counts toward the PVAAS three-year rolling average, the score used on an
educators final rating form. This three hour session will provide a comprehensive overview of the PVAAS
Roster Verification process, including timelines and the roles/responsibilities of teachers, principals,
and district administrators. Participants will receive a live guided review of the web-based Roster
Verification system, and a variety of resources and supports for LEAs to use during the PVAAS
Roster Verification process will be shared. Time will be allotted for questions. For more
information on joining and system requirements, please see pages 10-11.

Audience: We encourage participation from administrators (at the district and school level) who have
responsibility for Act 82/Educator Effectiveness, teacher leaders representing teachers eligible for PVAAS
teacher specific reporting, and any additional LEA staff who provide support and assistance for PVAAS
Roster Verification.
