The Following is a List of the Prime Ministers of

India From 1947 Till Date:-



The First Prime Minsiter of Independent India /
Pandit Jawarharlal Nehru (1889-1964)/From
15th August 1947 To 27th May 1964
(Continuously for 17 years- More than 4 Full
Terms)

Pandit Jawarharlal Nehru was the First Prime
Minister of Independent India, who held charge
continuously for 17 years (3+ Terms) from 15th
August 1947 to 27th May 1964.

Jawaharlal Nehru was born in Allahabad on 14th
November 1889. He was one of the Founder-
Member of the "Indian National Congress".

Jawaharlal Nehru died on 27th May 1964 during his
4th term of his enure as the Prime Minister of India.



The First Inerim Prime Mininster of I ndia:

Mr. Gulzarilal Nanda (1898- 1998)/From 27th
May 1964 To 9th J une1964 (For 14 days):







Mr. Gulzarilal Nanda had been the first 'Interim
Prime Minister' of India, from 27th May 1964 To
9th June 1964, for 14 days, until Lal Bahadur
Shastri was selected as the Second Prime Minister
of India.

Mr. Gulzarilal Nanda had also been the second
"Interim Prime Minister" of India, after the
second Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri
died on 11th January 1966, for 14 days from 11th
January 1966 To 24th January 1966, until
Mrs.Indira Gandhi was selected as the Third Prime
Minister of India.

Mr. Gulzarilal Nanda was born in Sialkot, now in
Pakistan on 4th July 1898 and died on January 15,
1998, at the age of 99 years, while he was running
100 years.


The Second Prime Minister of India:

Mr.Lal Bahadur Shastri (1904-1966)/From 9th
June 1964 To 11th January 1966 (For 1 year
and 7 months)








Mr.Lal Bahadur Shastri was the Second Prime
Minister of India, from 9th June 1964 to 11th
January 1966.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was born in Moghalsarai,
Varanasi on 2nd October 1904. And he died on
11th January 1966 at Tashkent in USSR, while
negotiating peace talks on behalf of India with
Pakistan.


The Second Time- I nterim Prime Minister of
I ndia/ Gulzarilal Nanda/From 11th J anuary 1966
To 24th J anuary 1966 (For 14 days):

Mr. Gulzarilal Nanda was the second "Interim
Prime Minister of India", from 11th January 1966 to
24th January 1966, for a period of 14 days.

Mr. Gulzarilal Nanda had been the first 'Interim
Prime Minister' of India, from 27th May 1964 To
9th June 1964, for 14 days, until Lal Bahadur
Shastri was selected as the Second Prime Minister
of India.











The Third Prime Minister of India:

Mrs.Indira Gandhi (1917-1984)/ 1st Time:From
24th January 1966 To 24th March 1977 and 2nd
Time: From 14th January 1980 To 31st October
1984 (For 15 years)

Mrs.Indira Gandhi, the only daughter of
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, was the Third Prime
Minister of India from 24th January 1966 to 24th
March 1977.(for the first time)

Again Mrs.Indira Gandhi had been the Prime
Minister of India, after Mr.Charan Singh, from 14th
January 1980 to 31st October 1984.(for the second
time)

Mrs. Gandhi has been the first and the only lady
Prime Minister of India.

Indira Gandhi was born in Allahabad on 19th
November 1917 and was shot dead by her own
security guards on 31st October 1984.
















The Fourth Prime Minister of India:

Mr. Morarji Desai (1896-1995) /From 24th
March 1977 To 28th July 1979 (For 2 years and
4 months)

Mr. Morarji Desai was the Fourth Prime Minister
of India, from 24th March 1977 to 28th July 1979.

Mr. Morarji Desai was the first Non-congress
Prime Minister of India, who headed the Janata
Party Government.

Mr.Morarji Desai was born on 29th February 1896,
in a village at Gujarat. And he died on 10th April
1995, at the age of 99 years, when he was running
100 years.


The Fifth Prime Minister of India:

Mr.Charan Singh (1902-1987)/From 28th July
1979 To 14th January 1980 (For 5 and 1/2
months)

Mr.Charan Singh was the Fifth Prime Minister of
India from 28th July 1979 to14th January 1980.

Mr.Charan Singh was From Janata Party (Secular).
Within a few days of his assuming office as the
Prime Minister one of the supporting parties
withdrew support and Mr.Charan Singh had been
only a Caretaker Prime Minister..

Mr. Charan Singh was born on 23rd December
1902 at Meerut and he died in the year 1987.


The Sixth Prime Minister of India:

Mr.Rajiv Gandhi (1944- 1991) / From 31st
October 1984 To 1st December 1989 (For 5 years
and 1 month)


Mr.Rajiv Gandhi, the first son of Mrs.Indira
Gandhi, and the grandson of Jawaharlal Nehru, was
the Sixth Prime Minister of India from 31st
October 1984 to 1st December 1989.

Mr.Rajiv Gandhi had been the youngest Prime
Minister of India (at the age of 41 years.).

Mr.Rajiv Gandhi was born at Mumbai on 20th
August 1944 and he died on 21st May 1991 at
Sriperumpudur in Tamilnadu, in a human bomb-
blast.



The Seventh Prime Minister of India:

Mr.Viswanath Prataph Singh / V.P.Singh (1931-
2008)/From 2nd December 1989 To 10th
November 1990 (For 11 months)

Mr.Viswanath Prataph Singh / V.P.Singh was
the Seventh Prime Minister of India, From 2nd
December 1989 To 10th November 1990.

V.P.Singh was the head of the Janata Dal
Government. He was born on 25th June 1931 and
he died on 27th November 2008.


The Eighth Prime Minister of India:

Mr.Chandra Shekhar (1927-2007) / From 10th
November 1990 To 21st June 1991 (For 7
months)


Mr.Chandra Shekhar was the Eighth Prime
Minister of India, From10th November 1990 To
21st June 1991.

Mr.Chandra Shekhar was born on 1st July 1927 in
Ballia District, Uttar Pradesh and he died on 8th
July 2007.

The Ninth Prime Minister of India:

Mr.P. V. Narasimha Rao (1921-2004) / From
21st June 1991 To 16th May 1996 (For 4 years
and 11 months)


Mr.P.V.Narasimha Rao was the Ninth Prime
Minister of India, From 21st June 1991 To 16th
May 1996. Mr.Narasimha Rao was the first Prime
Minister from South India. He was was born in
Vangara, Karimnagar District, Andhra Pradesh, on
28th June 1921 and he died on 23rd December
2004.


The Tenth Prime Minister of India:

Mr.Atal Bihari Vajpayee / A.B.Vajpayee (Born
in 1924) / 1st Term :From 16th May 1996 To
16th May 1996, Second Term: From 19th March
1998 to 13th October 1999 and Third
Term:From 13th October 1999 To 22nd May
2004 (For a Total Period of 5 years and 2
months-non consecutively)
Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on 25th
December 1924 at Gwalior (now in Madhya
Pradesh).

The Eleventh Prime Minister of India:

Mr.Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda / H
D Deve Gowda (Born in 1933) /From 1st June
1996 To 21st April 1997( For 10 months )

Mr.H.D.Deve Gowda was the Eleventh Prime
Minister of India, From 1st June 1996 To 21st April
1997.
Deve Gowda was the Prime Minister heading a
'non-congress' and non-BJP' collision -"United
Front". He was born on 18th May 1933
Hassan district, Karnataka.


The Twelfth Prime Minister of India:

Dr.Inder Kumar Gujral / Dr.I. K. Gujral (1919-
2012) / From 21st April 1997 To 19th March
1998 (For 11 months)

Dr.I.K.Gujral was the TWELFTH Prime Minister
of India, From 21st April 1997 To 19th March
1998. He had been the Prime Minsiter heading
Janata Dal Government.




The Thirteenth Prime Minister of India:
Dr.Manmohan Singh (Born in 1932)/From 22nd
May 2004 Till 26th May 2014 (For 10 years-2
Consecutive Full Terms) :
Dr.Manmohan Singh is the Thirteenth and the
present Prime Minister of India from 22nd May
2004. He is continuing as the Prime Minister for a
second term from the year 2009. Dr. Singh was
born on 26th September 1932, at Gah, Punjab of
Un-Divided India (presently with Pakistan).


The Fourteenth Prime Minister of India From
26th May 2014:

As the term of the 15th Lok-Sabha of India ends on 31st
May 2014, the General Elections for the 16th Lok Sabha
were held in April 2014 and the "National Democratic
Alliance"/NDA led by BJP has dethroned the 2 terms
rule of the 'United Progressive Alliance'/ UPA led by the
Indian National Congress/INC of Mrs Sonia Gandhi
with Dr.Manmohan Singh as the 13th Prime Minister of
India (for 2 consecutive terms from 2004 till 2014).

Mr.Narendra Modi, the ex-Chief Minister of
Gujarath (since 2001 to 2014) has been elected by
the NDA/BJP as the Prime Minister-Designate of
India.
Accordingly, Narendra Modi is taking charge as the
14th Prime Minister of India on 26th May 2014.
