The Most Prestigious Recognition of
Civic Pride, Leadership and Progress in the Birmingham Region
This program recognizes citizens who exemplify civic pride, leadership and progress just as Vulcan has symbolized
for 110 years. Five outstanding citizens will receive The Vulcan award for community commitment, initiatives
or heroism that have or will have a signicant impact on the quality of life in the region in each of the categories.
Only one award will be given for Lifetime Achievement and special recognition will also be given in the other
four categories.

All award winners will be recognized at The Vulcans Community Awards Dinner on Oct. 2, 2014 at The Club in
Homewood, Alabama.
Lifetime Achievement Award
Awarded in recognition of a lifetime body of work demonstrating a Vulcan-like contribution to the
betterment of the region, in public, private or charitable activities. *May be awarded posthumously.
Newcomer Award
Awarded in recognition of a signicant impact
on the community of which he/she has been a
part for no more than ve years.
Game Changer Award
Awarded in recognition of leadership in innovative
project/projects that have made or is/are likely
to positively impact the region.

Hero Award
Awarded in recognition of heroic acts that
have demonstrated selessness in the face of
perceived insurmountable odds and has made
a signicant difference in the lives of others.
Servant Leadership Award
Awarded in recognition of seless service to
others in the Birmingham region. *Not limited
to individuals in faith-based and not-for-prot
organizations, but for anyone who, like Vulcan,
has stood for the community by serving others.

TO BE ELIGIBLE
Nominee must be of good character and a
source of pride to the Birmingham Region.
Nominee must have resided in Bibb, Blount,
Chilton, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair or Walker
County during accomplishment of activities for
which they are being nominated.
* No self-nominations will be accepted.
DEADLINE/QUESTIONS
Nominations must be received no later
than 5:00 pm. on Thursday, July 31, 2014.
