The Care Quality Commission- 3 Lives report
The Care Quality Commission is the organisation that
checks health and social care services across England.
This includes places such as:
Hospitals
Residential homes
Dentists
And more

They have just written a report called 3 Lives. This tells the
stories of three people who did not get a good service and
what needs to happen in the future to make things better.

The 3 people who are talked about in the report are:
Connor - Died at an assessment and treatment
centre. Connor died in the bath after having a seizure.
The staff had not been checking that Connor was ok.
Kayleigh- She spent 10 years in different assessment
and treatment centers including Winterbourne View
Lisa- spent most of her time locked away in a small
room. The staff gave her food through a small hole in
the wall of the room

The big messages in this report are:
Services did not support them in a good way
Services did not include them or their families in how
to give them the best service they could get.

You can find more information about this at:

Dental Care Review
Dentists in Northumberland and Tyne and Wear want to
know what you think about emergency dental services.

They would like to know what people with learning
disabilities think about what happens when they need
dental treatment quickly.

You can read the letter they have written about it here:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/231923480/Accessible-Version-
of-Dental-Letter

You can tell the dentists what you think using this link.

Mental Health Act Code of Practice Consultation
Event for Service Users

Transforming Care: A national response to Winterbourne
View Hospital, found that the Mental Health Code of
Practice was not being properly applied, for both people
detained and people who were voluntary patients in
hospitals.
The Department of Health, Ministry of Justice and Care
Quality Commission therefore thought now is the right time
to review and update the Code of practice. This is not
about making new policies, or changing the law but making
sure the Code is up to date and gives people the best
guidance.
The Service Users, Families and Carers Consultation
Events have been launched.

The dates of these events are:
Tuesday 22 July in Leeds at Quarry House from 11 until
15.00 and
Wednesday 30 July in London at Skipton House at 11 until
15.00.

Please follow the link below if you would like to register for
one of these events.
