CAST 27 - TEST STRUCTURE AND EVALUATION

1. In order to appear in the final database, all candidates must pass a series of tests:
• aptitude to verbal reasoning (20 multiple choice questions) and to numerical
reasoning (10 multiple choice questions - on-line calculator available); time
allowed 30 minutes and 20 minutes respectively;
• knowledge of the European Union (25 Multiple choice questions); time allowed
20 minutes;
• specific knowledge (in the area of interest indicated by the candidate in the
Application form).
2. Candidates for most profiles will only pass the reasoning and E.U. knowledge tests in
the first phase (by CBT – Computer Based Tests); candidates will be called for the
specific knowledge tests at a later stage.
As an exception to this general rule, candidates having chosen one of the 10 profiles
listed below will pass all the tests at the same time in this phase (specific knowledge test:
40 multiple choice questions; time allowed 40 minutes).
Candidates for RELEX profiles will take their tests in a classic "pencil and paper" format
all at the same time, on 13 July.
3. Reasoning and E.U. knowledge tests will be analogous for all candidates within a
Function group, irrespective of the profile chosen; their level of difficulty will be adapted
to each Function group.
Tests results will be evaluated according to the following schedule, which takes into
account the relative complexity of tasks to be carried out within the different Function
groups.
For the purpose of the final global score, each test will have the following relative
weight:

i) Verbal and Numerical reasoning 30% of total

ii) E.U. knowledge 20% of total

iii) Specific competences 50% of total

*Special arrangements will be applicable for the competence tests for profile "Driver",
in the light of the specific tasks to be performed.
Please note that wrong answers to multiple choice questions will not be penalised.

Candidates will be advised at a later stage of the structure and format of the specific
knowledge tests; in some cases and for some profiles written test might be replaced by
practical or oral tests.
