Halcyon
was created in response to the demands of extreme
technical diving. In the early 1990s, Halcyon
founders
were exploring deep wrecks and long-distance caves,
including the world-renowned Wakulla Springs.
No other site can draw the comparison of being the Mt. Everest of cave diving:
massive conduit (often over a 30 meters in diameter), deep, multi-branching
passages, and passages explored to nearly 10km. Dives in Wakulla are the
longest ever done: bottom times for the lead team can exceed ten hours at
a depth of 90m. By the time the team exits the water, they will have spent
nearly 30 hours underwater.
Deep wrecks and long-distance cave diving are both physically and mentally
demanding. Halcyon
COO
Casey McKinlay. Casey is the WKPP Project Director and oversees the planning
for each exploration dive weekend. Casey also joins Jarrod and teams of explorers
for expeditions across the globe. Over the course of these projects, dozens of
divers spend hundreds of hours in a range of extreme underwater settings.
Exploration divers who push the limits of underwater exploration demand
that their Halcyon
also soon discovered that their pursuit of quality in the diving equipment
could radically improve the diving comfort of the newest recreational diver.
As a result most equipment and gear made by Halcyon

SINGLE TANK
The new standard
for single-tank diving.
Unprecedented
streamlining.
Eliminates useless
features that clutter
traditional BC.
The Eclipse wing has a long, narrow prole
that supports the divers single tank along his
or her entire length, preventing unnecessary drag
and minimizing in-water effort.
Meanwhile, the innitely adjustable harness
prevents the frustrating lack of control found
with typical buoyancy compensators.
Added stability reduces drag by encouraging
a streamlined position these changes result
in less effort and more diving fun.

DOUBLE TANK
The Explorer series
offers a proven design
that remains popular
in a wide range
of diving environments
and for a wide range
of double-tank
gear congurations.
The Explorer wing is made from the most rugged materials available.
The 400 denier nylon bladder has a tighter weave and is more
puncture resistant than a broad weave. The Explorers 1680 ballistic
nylon outer shell is designed for maximum abrasion resistance.
The two materials used together offer the best protection from damage.
Heavy-duty zipper has a three-inch wide strip of Cordura
to prevent zipper chaff on the inner bladder.
Two-inch webbing-reinforced backbone construction.
Trap-door drainage system allows water to drain rapidly
from the outer cover to minimize excess weight
and diver effort re-boarding the dive boat.
Narrow and elongated construction improves streamlining and trim.
The Explorer wing is available in two lift capacities
and is appropriate for a wide range of double-tank congurations.
The Explorer accommodates exposure protection
and various equipment requirements.

Tank-mounted trim weight
pockets support optimal
weight distribution,
encouraging diving comfort
and in-water stability.
While at the surface, they promote a heads-up position, counteracting the positive tendency of

GUIDELINE
Guideline devices,
such as spools and reels,
are useful in a range
of diving environments.
Technical divers
understand that guidelines
belong on every dive, whether:
exploring a cave,
studying the remote recesses
of a deep wreck,
or just enjoying the beauty
of any overhead environment.
Open water divers more
and more use guidelines to:
mark interesting locations,
oat a signal marker during a drift dive,
or secure alternative lift devices
during an ascent.
Halcyons Defender spools and Pathnder reels
are made to the most rigorous of standards,
ensuring that operations are trouble free.
Halcyons spools and reels have proven their
quality and reliability in extreme environments
through thousands of hours of recreational,
technical and cave diving.

_________________________________________________ ABOUT HID LIGHTING
_________________________________________________ ABOUT LED LIGHTING
____________________________________________ WHY CHOOSE HID OR LED ?
HID (High Intensity Discharge) lighting technology replaces the lament of the light bulb with a
capsule of gas. The light is emitted from an arc discharge between two closely spaced electrodes
hermetically sealed inside a small quartz glass tubular envelope capsule.
To operate, they require ballasts, which supply proper voltage and control current. The amount
of light produced is greater than a standard halogen bulb, while consuming less power, and
more closely approximating the colour temperature of natural daylight.
LED (Light-Emitting Diodes) are light sources utilizing diodes that emit light when connected in
a circuit. The effect is a form of electroluminescence where LEDs release a large number of
photons outward; the LED is housed in a plastic bulb, which concentrates the light source.
LEDs last much longer than conventional
bulbs. A very small semi-conductor chip runs
an LED, therefore they are very durable and
tend to last many thousands of hours. LEDs
are instant on much like halogen lamps,
and convenient for use in applications that are
subject to frequent or potential on-off cycling.
HID lamps are more fragile and have to warm
up (15 25 seconds) during ignition.
HID lights are much brighter than current LED
congurations. HID lighting is still preferred
by most divers given the superior intensity
and tight focus.
However LED technology is changing rapidly and it is foreseeable that LEDs will eventually
surpass the performance of HID lighting in the near future.
Although it produces 5% of its output when rst ignited, the HID light requires a few seconds
(usually 15-20) to come up to full output. Also, if power to the lamp is lost or turned off, the
arc tube must cool to a given temperature before the arc can be re-struck and light produced.
Halcyon HID lights only require a brief (5-10 second) cooling period before they can be re-lit.
LEDs are tiny bulbs t into an electrical circuit. However, unlike ordinary incandescent bulbs,
they dont have a lament. LEDs are illuminated solely by the movement of electrons in a semi-
conductor material, making them energy efcient and extremely resilient over long periods.
?
How does it work ?
In all High Intensity Discharge lamps, light is produced by passing a current
through a metal vapour. Free electrons colliding with an atom in the vapour
momentarily knock an electron into a higher orbit of the atom. When displaced
electron falls back to its former level, a quantum of radiation is emitted.
The wavelength of radiation depends on the energy zone of the disturbed
electron and on the type of metal vapour used in the arc tube.
?
How does it work ?
The most important part of an LED is the semi-conductor chip located in the
centre of the light source. The chip has two regions separated by a junction.
The p region is dominated by positive electric charges, and the n region is do-
minated by negative electric charges. The junction acts as a barrier to the ow
of electrons between the p and the n regions. Only when sufcient voltage is
applied to the semi-conductor chip can the current ow and the electrons cross
the junction into the p region.
When sufcient voltage is applied to the chip, electrons can move easily across
the junction where they are immediately attracted to the positive forces in the
p region. When an electron moves sufciently close to a positive charge in the p region, the two charges
recombine. Each time an electron recombines with a positive charge, electric potential energy is converted
into electromagnetic energy. For each recombination of a negative and a positive charge, a quantum of
electromagnetic energy is emitted in the form of a photon of light.

Halcyon
APOLLO VIDEO
lighting systems
are widely recognized
among recreational divers,
technical explorers, and
professional videographers
for their robust construction
and ingenious
system integration.
Halcyon
is showing its dedication to cutting-edge lighting systems with this 200 watt
battery-powered HMI video light. This motion picture studio light is capable of extreme depths,
producing 60 minutes of intense light at a precise 5600K colour temperature.
The Halcyon
primary
lights are
available with
a choice of
21 watt HID
or 10 watt HID
with either
focusable or
xed 6 degree
reector.
LIGHT HEADS
They can also be outtted with an underwater quick disconnect (E/O) cord.
They come standard with a large coldwater Goodman handle.
The Halcyon
21 watt HID allows full adjustability and easy bulb changes in a conventional,
test-tube style design.
The Goodman style head offers easy, hands-free operation.
The exclusive ultra-bright reector provides the best possible light output.
Combined with the extended protective cowling on the light head, the EXPLORER 21-watt lights
throw out an intensely focused beam of bright, white light that diver can rely on in the most
challenging situations.
Key Features:
Locking bulb design eliminates the risk of dislodged bulbs and sporadic ignition problems
High-temperature polymer (PEEK) nearly eliminates risk of socket damage
New Bright Star bulb with a shorter stem and protection sleeve reduces risk of breakage.
Includes Goodman handle and Halcyon
reector.

E/O CORDS
Halcyon
E/O cords
are versatile underwater
pluggable connectors.
They come standard on the APOLLO line and are available on most EXPLORER/EOS series
(please refer to pages 49 to 51). They are available as an optional upgrade on all EXPLORER/EOS
lighting systems.
Slender two-pin connectors allow the user to disconnect the camera, housing, and light heads
from the Halcyon

Where does the term E/O was derived from ?
E/O was the name used for these ttings when they
were rst manufactured by Electro-Oceanic, Inc. in the
USA. Over the years, through mergers and buy-outs,
Electro-Oceanic has disappeared from the business
landscape as a company.
The term E/O is still associated with this underwater
connecting solution. Halcyon
and BtS
now support
the fourth generation of the E/O design.

P VALVESYSTEM
Overboard Discharge System P-Valve
Allows a diver to relieve himself while immersed.
Without this possibility the diver will often intentionally keep himself
in a state of dehydration. Not only is this very uncomfortable
but as well potentially dangerous.
There is a clear link between effective
decompression and hydration.
A dehydrated diver will often act
irresponsibly and there is evidence
indicating that dehydration is a major
contributor to decompression illness.
Divers can remain comfortable and avoid
health risks and throughout their dives.
The new P-Valve has many advantages.
Besides streamlining, the valve cap allows for
easy operation and maintenance access.
The interior hose assembly design makes
suit donning and removal simple.
Total design consists of three Delrin
pieces,
which makes installation fast and easy.
The P-Valves internal mushroom valve
has been specically chosen for precision
ow rate and minimal backpressure.
Kit includes a at spanner and a single-use
tube of aqua Seal. The P-Valve will facilitate
overboard discharge of urine through a dry
Suit or Wet Suit.
Considered a must for any Dry Suit Diver undertaking
moderate to long underwater exposures.
Complete Kit:

The adhesive placement beginning
just behind the glans is providing
added security.
It prevents urine migration
and build-up, which can result in
premature removal or catheter blow-off.
The soft silicone makes it comfortable
to wear but also makes it easy
to remove after the dive.
The Wideband Catheters come in boxes of 30 pieces.
Wideband Catheters by Rochester Medical,

with the Halcyon

GAUGES
As reliable as accurate.
Available in two diameters.
Easy to read in
all conditions.
The weight and size of the Standard SPG make it well suited as a primary SPG; the large,
clear display is easy to read in all diving conditions.
Key Features:
Calibrated for bar (0-360) or PSI (0-5000)
Nickel-plated brass case
High density Mineral glass lens
Smaller and lighter stage pressure gauge is the preference of most Technical divers
with multiple stage/deco cylinders.
Key Features:
Light weight helps balance stage/deco bottles
Calibrated for bar (0-400) or PSI (0-5500)
Nickel-plated brass case
Acrylic lens
The necklace attachment keeps your reserve second
stage immediately accessible. The elastomeric cord is thin
enough to t under the mouthpiece zip-tie and is strong
enough to last for years.
Both standard and stage pressure gauges use high-quality materials.
Their highly visible luminescent face make them a favourite among divers in all environments.
