TODAY TODAY S AGENDA S AGENDA
Why Electrical Engineering?
How much do we rely on Electrical
Systems?
What would the world be like if all
electrical systems suddenly stopped
working?
2
Why do you do this subject?
Electrical systems are an integral part of many
modern systems.
Why Electrical??????
Many advances in electrical and electronic systems
eg computers and semiconductor systems.
Small, light weight.
Lot of computing power
Reliability
Flexibility
Lots of things need electricity and
hence ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS.
Hybrid Cars
Consider an Airbus 380

Large Commercial Aircraft contain
many electrical systems eg:
Power systems
Control Systems
Communication Systems
Computer networks
Entertainment systems

Ground rules
Respect others right to learn.
Please keep quiet in lectures.
Note: 1
st
yr is a greater challenge
than HSC!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Survey of
students at end of 1
st
year)
