FM Stations in Kathmandu:

Radio broadcasting in Nepal is one of the major sectors that has experienced
enormous changes in recent years. There has been remarkable growth in
both private and community radio in Nepal since 199. !n Nepal" #athmandu
valley is the most crowded place in terms of $% radio fre&uencies ranging
from '.( %)* to 1+., %)*. !n #athmandu valley" $% radio license has been
issued for -( $% stations and among them .' are operating. ( $% radio
broadcasters have satellite uplink and can be listened online from every
corner of the world. The following table shows the $% broadcasters in

diBcult to tune a particular $% in #athmandu. 9part from these $% stations
in #athmandu" a large number of community $% stations are running in
every district out of the valley and they are serving well in the Celd of
communication in rural areas.
Radio Nepal:
Radio Nepal was established on 1st 9pril 1941. Radio Nepal was the only radio
broadcaster before the introduction of $re&uency %odulation 0$%1 radio that began
in the privateDindependent sector in 199. !t is still a stateEowned broadcaster
reaching the general masses through shortwave and medium wave transmitters
from its central station based in #athmandu 8alley" and through medium wave
transmissions from its regional broadcasting stations based in @ipayal" /urkhet"
;okhara" 5ardibas and @hankuta. 5esides" Radio Nepal has about a do*en $% relay
stations in diFerent parts of the country. 9s the government owned radio station"
Radio Nepal received the Crst license to operate in $% band in Nepal and started
broadcasting on November 1(" 1994. !t was done to help Radio Nepal stay ahead in
the competition with future $% radio stations.
