Talk about yourself having a healthy lifestyle.
Please say:
Sample answer:
I should like to enjoy a healthier lifestyle although there are many factors that make this difficult. Like
many people my working life involves many hours sitting down at a computer screen. This leads to a
lack of exercise and is bad for eyes and body posture. Travelling to work by car does not help either.
Outside work there is not always time to take exercise or to prepare healthy meals. I know this kind of
lifestyle affects my health and fitness and makes me more prone to suffer from illness. It also makes me
put on weight. To have a healthier lifestyle I need to change the routine of my daily life, for example by
cycling or walking to work instead of driving. I need to ensure more regular exercise even if this is only
10 minutes yoga in the morning. I also need to eat more carefully, especially fruit and vegetables, and
not eat so much convenience food or red meat. At work I should take regular breaks away from the
computer to relax my eyes and stretch my body. I plan to slow down and take time to enjoy simple
pleasures like a well-cooked healthy meal or some sport in the sunshine.

Qu.6 Could governments do more to promote healthier lifestyle options?
Yes, in my opinion the government has a big responsibility to try to persuade people to live more healthily.
I think they could provide more education in schools to teach children how to eat more healthily and show
them the importance of taking physical exercise. In fact, its the parents too that also need to be reeducated on these issues. Another thing, I think there should be more government warnings on TV
showing people the dangers of obesity and poor diet, for example. Actually, they do have some that show
the health risks of smoking and drinking, which are quite powerful, but not really about healthy eating.
Finally, there could be more public facilities to help people keep fit, like swimming pools, gyms and sports
centres. More to the point they need to be affordable so that everyone has the opportunity to use them.

Qu. What changes have there been in recent years in employment in your country?
I think there have been many changes in the types of jobs that people do nowadays compared to 20 or 30
years ago. First of all there are much fewer jobs related to heavy industry such as mining or ship-building
or even manufacturing. Secondly, there has been a big increase in the number of jobs in the service and
leisure industries like shops, gyms, and hotels. And finally, since the launch of the internet there has been
a big surge in the number of jobs related to IT, such as web development and design.

Qu.1 Which environmental problems are people most concerned about in your country?
I think people in my country are most concerned about future shortages of fresh drinking water, which I
suppose is both a result of poor water management and general global warming. I think everyone is
feeling the effects of the latter problem which is causing us to experience more extreme temperatures, for
example, much colder winters and much hotter summers. The long hot summers are particularly worrying
in the south of the country where there is a real risk of drought due to the consistent lack of rainfall.

Qu. Do you think that the advance of technology has improved standards of education in schools?
I think the growth of the internet has had a major impact on current teaching methods and Im sure
general standards have improved as a result. I strongly believe that the motivation for both learning and
teaching has increased because of the phenomenal amount of information now available to both students
and teachers. On the other hand, due to a danger of information overload, some people may be put off
using technology in the classroom, wishing for a return to more traditional methods.

Qu. Do you agree that its important for people of different ages to do leisure activities together?
Um well I think in some cases it could be important for people of different ages to do leisure
activities together. For example, parents or even grandparents can enjoy doing fun things with their
children or grandchildren, like, you know, things that dont require a lot of physical ability such as playing
games, reading or cooking. I guess that sometimes it is very important for older people to do things with
younger ones, especially more difficult skills that need to be taught like I dont know martial arts or
playing a musical instrument.

Qu. Do you think that films shown in cinemas should have an educational value?
No, I dont think that its necessary for all films to be educational. In fact, I think people go to the cinema
because they simply want to be entertained, not always educated. Watching a film on the big screen is a
form of escapism and so people want adventure, romance or fantasy. As far as Im concerned, if Im
looking to be educated I would choose to read a book or watch a documentary, although actually I do also
enjoy historical films which teach me something about the past.

Qu.1 Is there a system of free state education in your country?
In my country there is a state education system offering free education for children from 3-18, although
parents still have to pay for food, materials, school trips and other extra-curricular activities. This is only
one part of the system, however, because there are also private schools and semi-private schools, which
are partly funded by the state. So on the one hand it appears that we do have free state education, but in
actual fact it isnt available to everyone because places are limited.

Qu. Do you think that people become better communicators as they get older?
I think that peoples ability to communicate does improve with age because generally speaking, people
get more confident as they gain more experience of life and I believe that confidence is a major factor. On
the other hand, some people may become more self-conscious as they got older, particularly when they
reach certain stages in their life such as adolescence. For me personally, I feel that Im a better
communicator now than when I was younger.

Last year , my wife celebrated my birthday at home. She bought a electronic dictionary as birthday gift. I
like the electronic dictionary very much. It's blue and quite small. It fits into my pocket. I remember at
that time, my wife said to me :"she decided to immigrate to Canada with me. In future, we must study
very hard .And she hoped that the electronic dictionary could help me to improve my English." On that
day, I was very happy because my wife agreed to immigrate to Canada finally. Also, with the help of the
electronic dictionary, I made such rapid progress that before long I began to write articles in English.
1) In China, when will people send the present?
Oh, attend the party, such as Wedding Party, Birthday Party. During Spring
Festival, people give presents each other, including clothes, books, flowers and foods.
2) Compare the gift which people have received 10 years ago to the present that people now are
receiving, what's the difference between them?
( try to compare the gift you received in your teenage with the gift children received now )
Oh, I think the gift was monotonic before. For example, I often received a notebook as gift. But now, there
are various gifts to choose from. Such as flowers, wine, food, clothes etc.
3) Just image the gift in the future children will receive.
In the future, I think more and more children will receive intellectual gifts, such as electronic dictionary,
notebook computer and so on.
4) Just image the gift in the future people will receive.
In the future, oh, in most case, people will give flowers each other. I think flowers will be the most popular
present.

Musical Instruments
Yes I play the keyboard. I started leaning it at a very early age. My mother bought me a toy piano when I
was a small kid. I started playing it on my own. Later, I went to a music school, where I leaned to play
the electric organ. Now I play it quiet well.
It is good in one way. As children, you have the time and interest in learning a musical instrument. In
think learning a musical instrument can give a lot of confidence to children. They will learn to perform
before other people. They can be proud of the fact that they know how to play a musical instrument. It is
the best way to know whether a child had the taste for it. However, we should not force a child into it,
especially if he doesnt have the talent for it.
No I dont think children should learn a musical instrument. It is the time for them to play and enjoy
games. Playing a music instrument is a very serious job. It requires a lot of patience and discipline. So I
think it is better not to force children into it at an early age. If they have the taste and talent they will
learn it later.
I think, it is not easy to learn a musical instrument without the help of a teacher, because you have no
one to clear your doubts. Not only that, you can never learn it, systematically. There are people who
learn musical instruments like guitar with the help of a book or through the internet. But, I dont think you
go can very far, in this way.
Why not! There are a lot of people who learn musical instruments without the help of a teacher. You can
get books and lessons from the internet. The advantage is that you can learn at your own pace and
convenience. Then why go for a teacher.
Part 2
I have been playing badminton for the last few years. This is something that I really enjoy. When I started
I wasnt a good player. Over the years I have improved tremendously. Every day I wait for the evening to
play badminton.
I play it in our college campus. We have an indoor court and so the wind doesnt disturb our game.
I play with my colleagues at work. There are about 6 to 8 people who play regularly and if you dont
reach the court in time, you dont get to play the first game. After a game is over, usually the losers have
to give chance to the other players, who wait outside.
I think this has definitely kept me fit. I have lost about 6 kilos in the last 2 years, just because I play this
game. I have no other exercise and I dont need any. I can eat anything I like and I can burn my extra
calories in the game. Now my body has become very flexible and I have improved my stamina. My
movements have become easy and my body is much more flexible now. I can even run up steps without
panting. My cholesterol and blood sugar levels are much lower than before. So this is something healthy
that I enjoy doing.
Part 3
The most common exercise, that people in my country do, to keep themselves fit, is to go for a walk. If
you get up early in the morning and look at the streets, especially in cities, you can see a lot of people
walking by the side of the road. There are also a lot of evening walkers as well. Some jog or cycle or do
some exercise or play some games. There are a lot of people who visit gyms to be fit. Yoga is another
popular exercise that people are interested in.
Why do some people think that modern lifestyles are not healthy?
See, people have a valid reason for thinking so. People today love comfort and luxury and they want to
satisfy their appetites at any cost. Rather than cooking at home, they love to eat out, at restaurants and
fast food joints. Fast food may be tasty but contains a lot of fat that is not good for health. Previously
people used to walk or engage in some kind of manual work. That is not the case today. Personal
vehicles and modern devices have made their life easy and people have great aversion towards sweating
their body. This lifestyle naturally invites diseases.
The best way to encourage people to live in a healthy way is to spread awareness about the
consequences of an unhealthy lifestyle. This can be done through the media like television and
newspapers. At an early age, children should be given education about the importance of a healthy
lifestyle. It should also be included in the curriculum. Moreover, sports should be made compulsory in
schools. Another effective way is to give gym and sports facilities in factories and offices.
where it is
when you went there
what you did there
and explain why you would, or would not, like to return to this place again.
Sample answer
Id like to tell you something about a campsite I visited quite frequently when I was little. It was called
Brandy Brook, and it was on the south coast of Wales, in Pembrokeshire. It was near the sea, but it wasnt
really near any big towns. I remember, though, it was near an airfield, and we always used to get excited
when we saw the big orange windsock, because wed know we were nearly there.
We went there several times, always in the summer holidays, until I was about 10. I suppose after that,
my parents thought I was too old for it.
So, we used to stay there in a caravan, which was great fun. We had to collect water from the taps outside
the shower block and carry it back to the caravan. The caravans were all arranged around the edge of the
field, so there was plenty of room in the middle to play ball games. There was a climbing frame in the
middle too. There was a cabin which would open every evening at about 5 oclock where we could buy
sweets. During the day, wed leave the site, of course, and go to the beach or go walking and sightseeing.
In the evenings wed go back, and play board games in the caravan. It was good.
Im not sure whether Id like to go there again or not, because Im worried it might have changed, and Id
be really disappointed. Plus, it might be more fun to go there as a child, or as a parent. Otherwise it might
be a bit boring.
Describe a charity which is important to you.
You should say:
and explain whether you think it is important for people to get involved in charity work
Sample answer
Id like to talk about the Willshire Wildlife trust. Its a local charity which I support. It protects the wildlife in
my local area. It preserves natural areas like fields, lakes and rivers, where animals live, and it makes sure
that the animals habitats are safe from development. It also educates people about how to look after
wildlife.
Im interested in this charity because it is in my local area. There are lots of charities overseas that I could
support, but you never know how your donation is being spent. Because this is a local charity, I can visit
the projects and even get involved myself, if I have time. They organise quite a few events where you can
help maintain forests and paths. I must admit, I havent been on one yet, but whenever they send me a
leaflet, I always say I will!
The charity raises money by asking people to donate money regularly, straight from their bank accounts. I
first heard about the charity because they had a stall at the entrance to the supermarket. They probably
get money from other ways too, but Im not sure about that.
I think it is important to get involved in charity work. Its important to remember people who are less
fortunate than you, or who are sick, poor or disadvantaged in some other way. And you can help people or
animals that cannot help themselves. But I think getting involved in charity work is fun too. You get to
meet lots of people and go to different places. And you can feel good about yourself.

to enemies. Soldiers used to keep watch on the Great Wall. When the enemy came , fires were lit to warn
other soldiers. I think the Great Wall is the most interesting building. Because it is one of the wonders of
the world and it was one of the few man-made objects on earth that could be seen by the astronauts who
landed on the moon. Also, the Great Wall has become a symbol of both China's proud history and its
present strength.

many private cars and not enough public buses. Third, many people, including drivers, pedestrians and
cyclists do not obey traffic rules properly, especially at busy intersections.

the government should invest more money in the building of new roads and the repairing and
maintenance of old ones, particularly those in busy areas of the cities. On the other hand, the number of
