Network Structures

Digital as well as analog terminals can

communicate directly with each other
in point-to-point or conference configurations or with a central node.

Applications
in Corporate Networks
Corporate networks of large companies and administrations, of
banks, rail operators, utilities, along
pipelines, freeways and radio relay
links require communication services
that are independent of the public
network and tailored specifically to a
company.

Terminated network structures and

standardized security management
guarantee secure data transport
between remote computer networks.
Different shelves support custom and
cost-optimized variation of the system
components.

Depending on the size and the

structural distribution of the company,
the following applications will be
needed:

The following units are available:

The compact SNUS
(Service Network Unit Shelf)

Access from analog and digital

terminals to a central node (e.g.
PBX, computer center)

The FMX2S
(Flexible Multiplexer 2 Shelf)

Connections between different

locations

The MXS19
(Multiplexer Shelf 19'')

Access from remote outstations to

a main station

Desktop ONU 20 FTTO

(Optical Network Unit for Indoor
operation)

The FMX2R3.1 provides the necessary equipment to meet these

requirements.

Over greater distances the SNUS can

be connected as required via STM-1/
STM-4/34 Mbit/s optical or 2 Mbit/s
optical/electrical.

The flexibility of the multiplexer allows

any combination of subscriber interfaces and software-controlled parameter settings.

The entire network can be controlled

and monitored from one central location (e.g. from the computer center).
Applications
in Public Networks
Both traditional and alternative carriers
aim to build networks to meet the
specific requirements of business
customers.
The solution comprises setting up the
business customer's corporate network with FMX2R3.1 and linking this
via a freely-selectable access point to
the FastLink system in the public
network.
FastLink networks consist of subscriber ONUs (Optical Network Unit) and
central OLT (Optical Line Termination)
equipment and cater for all communication services of private customers.
The switching signals are transmitted
in FastLink via the V5 protocol.
The channel-associated signaling of
the corporate network is processed in
the OLT for the switching equipment
either in accordance with V5.1 or for
concentrated traffic in accordance
with V5.2.

FMX2R3.1
PBX

Computer
Center

For this purpose the OLT houses

crossconnect multiplexer CMXII-V5
which converts channel-associated
signaling into V5 protocols. The
conversion process involves assigning
the incoming channels from the subscribers either to up to 92 x 2-Mbit/s
interfaces in accordance with V5.1 or
to up to 32 x 2-Mbit/s interfaces
according to V5.2 in any arrangement.

and Applications
In the OLT FastLink provides additional options for transmission to the
broadband network or also to further
data networks.
The administration and supervision of
the entire network, including the
corporate network can be undertaken
using the central management
system (AccessIntergator) of FastLink.
This saves money on the cost of an
additional management system.

ISDN telephony (S0)
The FMX2R3.1 multiplexes the analog
or digital signals of the subscriber
interfaces into one or two

2-Mbit/s signals according to ITU-T

G.703/G.704 and converts the
subscriber signaling into channel-associated signaling (CAS). FA signaling is
also available as a special signaling
variant.
Crossconnect Multiplexer CMXC
serves as a small network node, typically cross connecting the 2-Mbit/s
signals of the multiplexer, its 64-kbit/s
channels or also its 8-kbit/s channels,
the 64-kbit/s channels including their
signaling information.
Crossconnect Multiplexer CMXII
which belongs to the FastLink system
can be used as a larger network node
and processes either channelassociated signaling or V5 protocol.
In the latter case the channel-associated signaling of the multiplexer is
converted in the CMXII into V5
protocols.
Greater distances between the
telecommunications equipment will
be bridged as required by using a
2-Mbit/s line equipment, optical line
equipment OMX16 or
Synchronous Multiplexer SMX1/4c.
Both on the network side and on the
subscriber side 2-Mbit/s Line
Equipment (LTx) can be used,

employing the modern (SHDSL,

WDM) and also conventional
transmission procedures:
Copper
2 Mbit/s SHDSL
2 Mbit/s Uk2 or HDSL
2 Mbit/s transparent (G.703)
Glass fiber
2 x 2 Mbit/s single mode
2 Mbit/s single mode (Ug2)
Optical Line Equipment OMX16
combines up to 16 x 2-Mbit/s signals
into one 34-Mbit/s signal and prepares
it for transmission over a singlemode
glass fiber.
Synchronous Multiplexer SMX1/4c
provides a choice of optical/electrical
STM-1 or an optical STM-4 interface
that can be operated on a single
mode glass fiber in point-to-point
mode or in an SDH ring.
Remote outstations with a small
number of subscriber interfaces can
be supplied via Network Terminations
(NT). The NTs are compact desktop or
wall-mounted units connected directly, either via copper or via glass fiber
cable, to the multiplexer or to 2-Mbit/s
LTs and covering a wide range of
attractive subscriber services.

2-Mbit/s Line Equipment (LTx)

Line Termination Unit LTCOH

2 Mbit/s (G.703) are prepared by the

2-Mbit/s line equipment for transmission on copper cable or optical cable.
The line equipment consists of units,
which can be used on both the
network side and the subscriber side.

As HDSL line equipment the LTCOH

is used for transparent transmission
of 1 x 2 Mbit/s on copper cables.
Connections between two LTCOH or
between LTCOH and network
termination unit NT12C are possible.

Line Termination Units LUC/LUCP

Line Termination Unit LT2ME1

The 2-Mbit/s line signal is transmitted

on copper cable in HDB3 code with
the LUC/LUCP.

Line termination unit LT2ME1 can be

equipped with up to 2 plug-in
modules. This means that up to
2 line interfaces (including different
ones) from the following assortment
are available:

The LUCP includes a remote feed unit

for supplying intermediate regenerators. Pinpointing of pulse errors or DC
errors in the intermediate regenerators can be undertaken.

Module Uk2mp also possesses a

remote feed unit and can thus supply
intermediate regenerators.

Line Termination Units LTO/LT and

LTO/NT
The optical line termination units LTO
use a single mode glass fiber for
transmission of 2 x 2 Mbit/s in send
and receive direction.
Using the 1550 nm optical window for
the LTO/LT and the 1300 nm window
for the LTO/NT separates the
directions.

unit. It is excellently well suited for
creating simple network nodes quickly
and efficiently.
The ONU 20 FTTO is used in both
FMX2R3.1 and FastLink networks.
According to the shelf it is equipped
with either a multiplexer FMX2R3.1 or
with an access multiplexer (AMX) of
the FastLink system.
Via 2 x 2 Mbit/s optical/electrical lines
the ONU 20 FTTO can span greater
distances to other network segments.
It is just as possible to cascade a

Network and Element Management

The components of the FMX2R3.1
can be both remote controlled and
also themselves represent the access
point to the DCN (Data Communication Network). They possess standard
interfaces according to QD2 for
incorporation into the DCN as well as
an F interface for local operating tasks.

The AccessIntegrator, Siemens

OA&M solution for access products,
supports both QD2 and SNMP
network elements and is therefore
excellently well suited to management of narrowband and also
broadband components.
