VERSION A: BULKY WEIGHT
With smaller circular needle and using a
long-tail cast on, CO 48 (56, 64, 72, 80) sts.
Place a marker and join for working in the
rnd, being careful not to twist sts.
Setup rnd: (K1, p1) repeat to end of rnd.
Continue in k1, p1 rib until band measures
1.5 (2, 2.5, 3, 3) / 3.75 (5, 6.25, 7.75, 7.75)
cm from CO edge.
Switch to larger circular needle.
Continue in St st until hat measures 3.25 (4,
5, 6, 7) / 5.75 (10.25, 12.75, 15.25, 17.75) cm
from CO edge.
Note: If youd like a slouchier cap, knit 1 -
2 / 2.5 - 5 cm more in St st then proceed as
instructed.
Begin crown shaping
Setup rnd: (Knit 8, pm) repeat to end of
rnd.
Decrease rnd: (K to 2 sts before m, k2tog,
sm) repeat to end of rnd - 6 (7, 8, 9, 10) sts
decreased.
Repeat this decrease rnd EOR until 6 (7,
8, 9, 10) sts remain. Switch to dpns when
necessary.
Next rnd: (K2tog) repeat to end of rnd, k -
(1, -, 1, -). - 3, (4, 4, 5, 5) sts.
Finishing
Cut yarn leaving a tail. Thread tail of yarn
onto a tapestry needle and using a duplicate
stitch, weave the end into the WS of the hat.
Gently block.
VERSION B: WORSTED WEIGHT
With smaller circular needle and using a
long-tail cast on, CO 72 (84, 96, 104, 112)
sts.
Place a marker and join for working in the
rnd, being careful not to twist sts.
Setup rnd: (K1, p1) repeat to end of rnd.
Continue in k1, p1 rib until band measures
1.5 (2, 2.5, 3, 3) / 3.75 (5, 6.25, 7.75, 7.75)
cm from CO edge.
Switch to larger circular needle.
Continue in St st until hat measures 2.5
(3.25, 4.25, 5.25, 6) / 6.25 (8.25, 10.75,
13.25, 15.25) cm from CO edge.
Note: If youd like a slouchier cap, knit 1 -
2 / 2.5 - 5 cm more in St st then proceed as
instructed.
Begin crown shaping
Setup rnd: [K12 (12, 12, 13, 14), pm] repeat
to end of rnd.
Decrease rnd: (K to 2 sts before m, k2tog,

decreased.
Repeat this decrease rnd EOR until 6(7,
8, 8, 8) sts remain. Switch to dpns when

Continue in St st until hat measures 3.5
(3.75, 4, 4.25, 5.5) / 9 (9.5, 10.25, 10.75, 14)
cm from CO edge.

instructed.
Begin crown shaping
Setup rnd: [K10 (14, 14, 18, 17), pm] repeat
to end of rnd.
