    TODAYSrepealofthecarbontaxisagreenlightforbusinesstoreinvestinthelocaleconomyandemploy
    people,accordingtoFederalMemberforDawson,GeorgeChristensen.
    Thecarbontaxwasa$9billionhandbrakeontheeconomyandreleasingthathandbrakeisgreatnewsfor
    businessesandalsoforfamilies,MrChristensensaid.
    Localfamilieswill,onaverage,save$550thisyearwithoutthecarbontax.
    MrChristensensaidthecarbontaxwasanunfairimpostonallthekeyindustriesinNorthQueensland,
    includingmining,agriculture,horticulture,andtourism.
    Lastyear,theMineralsCouncilofAustraliareportedthecarbontaxwascostingtheAustralianminerals
    industrymorethan$1.2billionayear,hesaid.
    Thecarbontaxwasoneofthefactorsthatledtomorethan15,000joblossesinthecoalsector,manyin
    ourlocalarea,hesaid.
    ThecarbontaxalsomadeAustralianagriculturelesscompetitiveonglobalmarkets,withCanegrowers
    estimatingan$81millionslugtosugarduetothecarbontax.
    Intheir2013AnnualReport,MackaySugarreportedacarbontaxliabilityof$1.7million.
    Queensland'speakfruitandvegetablegrowerorganisationGrowcomcalculatedfarmerswouldbehitwith
    costincreasesofbetween$5,500and$45,000ayearbecauseofthecarbontax,puttingfurtherpressure
    onfarmprofitability.
    OneBowentomatofarmerreportedthecarbontaxwasaddingmorethan$12,000tothecostof
    cardboardcartonsandatleast$9000ontheelectricitybill.
    TheTourismandTransportForummadeasubmissiontotheDepartmentofClimateChange,reportinga
    carbontaxof$26pertonnewoulddrive$266millionofdomestictourismoffshoreandreduceinbound
    internationaltourismbyaround$457million.
    AccommodationbusinessesintheWhitsundaysboretheextracarbontaximpostontheirpowerbills,
    whichisoneoftheirtopthreebusinesscosts.
    CruiseWhitsundaysreportedthebusinesswasfacingaddedcostsof$770,000overthreeyearsasaresult
    ofthecarbontaxonmarinediesel.
    MrChristensensaidthecarbontaxalsosluggedresidentseverytimetheypaidrates,withtheMackay
    RegionalCouncilreportingitwouldhavetopasson$36.4millionofcarbontaxtoratepayersover40years.
    Thistoxictaxhasbeenahandbrakeontheeconomyandnowthatitisreleased,wecanlookforwardtoa
    moreprosperouseconomy.
    Nowthatitsgone,the$9billionthatwassuckedoutoftheeconomyinthenameofcoolingtheplanet
    canbeusedbybusinessestoreinvestandemploypeople.
