5006 Lumen Christi. Deo Gratias. Op Paaszaterdag worden deze woorden voorgedragen,
terwijl de Paaskaars naar het altaar gebracht wordt. Op de achtergrond een detail
van een Germaans manuscript uit de 11de eeuw en een fragment van de letter L
(Liber=boek), versierd met het Keltisch symbool van de eeuwigheid.
5007 Kazuifel voor Pinksteren. Op de achtergrond een detail van de Pinkster mozaek uit
de basiliek San Marco in Veneti: de vredesduif met 12 stralen, die de 12 apostelen
voorstellen. Op de voorgrond in goudgeel geschreven: Veni Creator Spiritus, een
Gregoriaans pinksterhymne.
5008 Rechterkant: de verkondiging van het Evangelie. Een pagina uit een middeleeuwse
bijbel, geschreven in een compact en dramatisch gotisch geschrift. Links: gele kalligrafie
Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth.
5009 Tekst van de Magnificat voor de Advent. De donkere nacht wordt voorgesteld door een
streep in zwaarmoedig geschrift, maar geschreven in goud en oker om het licht van de
Verrijzenis te voorspellen op het eind van de Vasten en de geboorte van Christus op het
eind van de Advent.

Op onze vraag ontwierp de tekstkunstenaar Brody Neuenschwander in exclusiviteit vier moderne gewaden.
Deze gewaden weerspiegelen zijn kalligrafische expressie en verkennen de grenzen van het samenspel tussen
tekst en beeld.
Deze gewaden worden digitaal gedrukt, een moderne techniek waarmee de dynamiek van de liturgie een
hedendaagse vorm krijgt. Deze gewaden worden in een beperkte oplage aangeboden.

- A concelebration set for the National
Eucharistic Congress in Knock
(Ireland), incorporating digital
prints of icons. These icons were
written especially for this occasion,
to represent the journey of pastoral
preparation for the Eucharistic
Congress.
- A diocesan set of concelebration
vestments for the Diocese of
Knoxville, TN (USA), with machine
embroidered crest of the diocese, on
velvet bandings.
Illustrated on page 2.
- A hand embroidered chasuble for the
Cathedral of Monaco, with the coat of
arms of the principality.
Washable alb in coat style
The garment is adapted for use under a chasuble, as a vestment

for concelebration, for baptism, home Mass or for lectors.
For all styles:
- Convenient coat style. The collar finished with fixed amice,
concealing clothing underneath (no separate amice needed).
- With fabric-covered buttons for perfect fit.
- Two elegant front and back pleats guarantee complete
freedom of movement.
- The style for men: has two slits for access to trousers pockets.

These stylish interchangeable superfrontals are lined, interlined and easy to

attach with velcro (positive part hooklets attached to the altar cloth, negative part
felt attached to the superfrontal), making it possible to leave the main cloth on
the altar. With these superfrontals, use a heavy altar cloth (e.g. in Omega-fabric),
or an altar cloth with lining and interlining (double price) to reduce sliding.

to compensate for shrinking during first laundering.

Therefore, all altar cloths are provided with a large hem
of 112 to be adjusted if necessary.
The front and back drop of type IV, are always attached by
seams to the altar cloth.

2011 was a year of many changes. The third Slabbinck generation has retired and Mirabel, Viktor
and Mathias (the fourth generation) have taken over the helm.

All vestments and paraments are still made in Bruges, the city where our great-grandfather and
founder, Hendrik Slabbinck, started his hand embroidery work in 1903. Our creations are sold

Brody Neuenschwander is an American text artist living in Bruges. He has made a series of contemporary
vestments, reflecting his calligraphic style and exploring the boundaries between text and image.
These vestments are digital prints, a state-of-the-art technique that Slabbinck has introduced to produce
limited quantities of liturgical vestments.

5006 Features the words Lumen Christi. Deo Gratias., which are recited as the Paschal
candle is processed up the aisle of the church on Easter Saturday. Beneath, a detail from
an 11th century German manuscript and a fragment of the letter L (for Liber, book)
decorated with Celtic knotwork, a symbol of eternity.
5007 Pentecost chasuble. In the background: detail of the Pentecost mosaic from San Marco
in Venice, placed over the heart of the priest and carries the dove, from which radiate
twelve rays symbolizing the apostles. In the foreground in golden yellow: Veni Creator
Spiritus sung in the Pentecost liturgy.
5008 On the right side is a page from a medieval bible, written in dense and dramatic
Gothic script, which represents the preaching of the Gospel. To the left in bold, yellow
calligraphy: Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth from the Sanctus of the Mass.
5009 Purple chasuble, with text of the Magnificat for Advent, and a stripe of dense, almost
troubled kind of writing representing the dark night, but written in gold and ochre
representing the light of the Resurrection at the end Lent and the birth of Christ at the
end of Advent.
