Higher speed mail/express and freight trains required-

7 ,13 Heavy-haul freight operations are also common in USA, China and
Russia with trains carrying in excess of 20,000 tonnes each compared to
5000 tonnes in our case. These superconducting trains operating in
evacuated tubes at speeds of up to 6,500 km/h (4,039 mph) on international
trips. The proponents of this system say that ET3 could be 50 times more
efficient than electric cars or trains.
The concept is based on the use of like heavy-duty above ground electrical
wires, but instead of carrying power, these high-tension wires become the
support for carriages. The proponents of the system see big advantages in
terms of cost (somewhere between three and 10 times less expensive than a
railway, maglev system, monorail system or motorway) and efficiency (an 80
kW (107hp) motor would take a 20-person passenger vehicle up to 155 mph
(250 km/h)).

container or vehicle, using multiple modes of transportation (rail, ship, and truck),
without any handling of the freight itself when changing modes.
Wagonload traffic typically consists of individual wagons load with goods at
separate locations (goods shed), transferred to marshalling yards where the wagons
are sorted by destination, then transported to a destination marshalling yard where
individual wagons are separated and collected into trains per destination.
Remote Control Locomotives (RCL) for cargo trains.
Congestion alert systems consisting of information collected from cameras, sensors
and other sources that can compiled to determine where congestion is (or will be)
occurring, with the results distributed via web portals and other communication
media.

Li-fi technology: This is a technology which is still in the process of
development. Li-Fi, transmits data using the spectrum of visible light and
leads to reduced costs and greater efficiency to traditional Wi-Fi.Wi-Fi and
Li-Fi both transmit data over the electromagnetic spectrum, but whereas
Wi-Fi uses radio waves, Li-Fi uses visible light. This technology is appealing
for railways and metros not only for the opportunity if offers passengers to
better access web-based material and enjoy a greater array on on-board or
at-station infotainment but also from an operational point of view as Li-Fi by
not using radio frequencies poses no risk of interfering with mission critical
electronic circuitry.
Virtual Ticketing Agents: The next development could well be Virtual
Agents at station computer offering a combination of ticket office, vending
machine and call centre. For passengers it offers a human contact but also
the immediacy and speed of a ticket machine.

The participation of both private and public sectors in developing rail
infrastructure has gone up.

Green initiative
The SolarBullet project is a campaign aiming to bring high-speed (we're
talking 220 mph (354 km/h)) trains using tracks equipped with solar panel
carrying canopies that would provide the 110 megawatts of electricity that
the system needs to run. While on the subject, solar isn't the only
alternative energy being considered for powering train networks. Turbines
incorporated into tracks that could be used to harness wind energy from the
train as it whooshes overhead.
Sky bus metro is another innovative, economic and eco-friendly mass rapid
transportation solution devised by Konkan Railway.

Rechargeable Trains Using Solar Electricity From The Tracks:While
contactless systems that allow personal electric vehicles to recharge on the
go are gathering momentum, these systems also hold potential for making
mass transportation greener and more efficient.
The first train, Gwalior-Varanasi Bundelkhand Express, fitted with bio-toilets
is running since January 2011.
2096 Bio-toilets so far installed.

Double-Skin Car Body And Module Type Interior Fitting:For better resistant
to corrosion
Solar panels infused tracks
Renewable energy projects (solar, wind etc.) for power generation.
Tap solar energy for lighting and air-conditioning in the coaches
Device converting railway tracks vibrations into energy to be introduced in
India
High-Speed and Hyper-Speed Rail: That would never crash, be immune to
weather, go twice as fast as an airplane, four times as fast as a bullet train,
and to top it off run completely on solar power.
