www.lbhmawarsaron.or.id 01 The defender of the poor has finally born It has been long since the poor expected the existence of legal aid and assistance for those who are facing legal matters. My experience in serving in legal aid institution and decades of practices as a lawyer, has opened my comprehension about the importance of non-profit legal aid for the poor. During the course of my career, I have witnessed, experienced, and also sensed how difficult it is for poor people to gain justice. As if law and justice in favor only for those who own wealth and power, and it is not rare that I cry looking at this condition, the poor who are legally blind seem like fighting for justice on their own and only facing discrimination without any help from other parties. Without any awareness from the capable side, especially from the advocates, will cause many injustices, the gulf between the poor and the rich will ranged wider, and for that reason I then took the initiative to establish a legal aid institution to give free and costless (pro Deo pro bono) aid, for the poor people who had been very far from justice. Mawar Saron Legal Aid Institution is the answer of all my anxiety during the times, on July 2002, I established Mawar Saron Legal Aid Institution to start the service mission of free legal aid for poor people. Originally begun in a small room 6 M x 6 M in the area of Mawar Saron Church Kelapa Gading, the lawyers of Mawar Saron Legal Aid Institution fought for the poor with incredible passion, a small step for law enforcement and supremacy in Indonesia. Now, at the age of more than twelve years, Mawar Saron Legal Aid Institution has expanded the services with the establishment of Mawar Saron Legal Aid Institution Semarang, Mawas Saron Legal Aid Institution Batam, and coming soon in Solo. In the period of over than 12 years, tens of thousands justice seeker have been already helped to gain justice by the institution, and I always dream that Mawar Saron Legal Aid Institution will be developed more and will have its representative in every city in Indonesia so that the poor might feel a real service and legal aid which finally leads to ennoble human dignity. I always told the young lawyers of Mawar Saron Legal Aid Institution that although our services are cost-free, but we have to provide the best service, furthermore even better than other commercial law firm, because what we do to those who arent able to return our aid, means we dedicate it to God, and that is the reason why we must do all things with all our heart as we do for God. May Mawar Saron Legal Aid Institution become the channel of Gods blessings to serve the poor and legally abused who are thirsty of justice and truth. Finally, we dedicate Mawar Saron Legal Aid Institution for our nation and country, and for the Glory of God. Hotma P.D.
