STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE
Harcum College requires all students to have health
insurance. If a student is not covered under their
parents, spouses, or other plan, the student must
purchase the Colleges Student Accident and Sickness
Insurance Plan.
All students will be billed for the Colleges insurance
plan unless they complete the online waiver form
indicating that they have health insurance through
another policy. The purpose of this policy is to
protect students from having their academic progress
interrupted due to large, unexpected medical bills.
The Harcum College Accident and Sickness Insurance
Plan is a low-cost health insurance plan that covers
injuries sustained and sickness contracted during the
coverage period.
Students can request, in writing, that the Bursars ofce apply excess
nancial aid to their health insurance fee. This can only be done after all
tuition and fees have been satised. If a student fails to comply with the
Colleges health insurance policy the student may have a Bursars Hold
placed on his/her record. A Bursars Hold blocks a students access to
IQ Web, preventing the student from scheduling classes, reviewing bills,
and accessing grades.
STUDENT IMMUNIZATIONS
The Colleges immunization policy is based on the
recommendations of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvanias
Department of Health and Immunization and the
American College Health Association and is in direct
correlation with the CDC guidelines. The purpose of this
policy is to reduce the students risk of infection from
preventable, contagious diseases, as well as to reduce
the risk of a health epidemic on campus. Submission of
documentation to Health Services is not required unless
you are a residential student or participating in the
International program.
Harcum College requires all entering students to complete the
following immunization schedule:
MMR Vaccine: Measles, Mumps, Rubella (two doses,
2nd dose after 1980).
Hepatitis B Vaccine (3 doses)
PPD Screening within 12 months of entering Harcum
College (Performed in the United States)
Varicella (Chicken Pox): Disease history or two doses
of vaccine.
Tetanus/Diptheria and Pertusis: Within the past ten
years, it is a combined vaccine
For resident students:
Meningococcalone or two doses required per CDC
guidelines prior to entry into the College for students living in
College owned and operated residence halls.
For students in the International program:
Current Tuberculosis screening by either a ppd skin test or
quantiferon gold blood test. This must be performed in the
United States and within the past six months.
If residential:
Meningitis documentation is also required.
Commuter Students:
Harcum College highly recommends, but does not require, the
meningitis vaccine for commuter students.
Veterinary Technology Rabies:
Current Tetanus vaccine within the last ten years. Required for
all veterinary students before starting practicum. It is a series
of 3 shots given by the College Physician in the Harcum
Health Center.
Exceptions to the policy are religious beliefs: a student must provide a
written statement which indicates a sincere, genuine belief that prohibits
immunization. Health reasons: a written statement from a physician or
nurse practitioner is required specifying that immunizations would be
detrimental to the students health.

procedures found on page 36 and 37 of Harcum
College Handbook under Student Code of Conduct
and then under Substance Abuse Policies will be
strictly enforced.
DRUGS
In accordance with STATE and FEDERAL LAW, Harcum
College has established these priorities: To provide
an atmosphere free from the manufacture, sale,
distribution, use or abuse of illegal or prescriptions
drugs. To stress safety and individual accountability for
all Harcum College students. To establish clear penalties
for violating the Colleges drug policy. To provide
students with information about confdential on-campus
and off-campus resources to address issues related to
drug use and abuse.
PARKING
Students who choose to park their vehicles on campus are
required to pay a vehicle registration fee regardless of the
number of days parked on the campus. The fee structure is
$80 per year or $40 per fall semester and $40 per spring
semester. The summer fee is $25. $10 for each additional
vehicle.
The Offce of Campus Safety, located in Klein Hall, Room
107, is responsible for the enforcement of parking and
traffc policies and regulations on the Harcum College
campus.
CAMPUS SAFETY
All campus safety offcers are subject to a full criminal
background check completed by the Pennsylvania State
Police prior to being hired.
TRAINING
All offcers receive training which includes basic security
principles, on-the-job training, and they are certifed in
First Aid/CPR/AED. Our offcers do not carry frearms.

COLLEGE IS A GREAT ADVENTURE
ACADEMIC & STUDENT RESOURCES
24/7 SECURITY/ ESCORTS
The College provides campus safety offcers who
patrol the campus 24/7. Walking escorts are provided
for students upon request. Emergency Call Boxes
are available across campus, and campus alerts are
provided if deemed appropriate.
EMERGENCY CALL BOXES
Emergency Call Boxes are provided across the campus
for safety and convenience. When the boxes are
activated, Campus Safety is notifed of the callers
location and responds.
Students can use the Emergency Call Boxes
or call 610-526-6099. Both will alert the campus safety
ofcer on duty.
MEDICAL ESCORTS
Upon request students will be transported to the College
Nurses offce. In situations where students require
emergency care, 911 will be called.
CAMPUS WIDE E-MAIL ALERT SYSTEM/e2campus
The Department of Campus Safety will issue a campus
wide e-mail alert when it is determined that an on or off
campus incident is of suffcient importance to notify the
Harcum community. Students must sign up through the
e2 alert system to receive these updates to email or
mobile phone accounts.
STUDENT RIGHT-TO-KNOW &
CAMPUS SECURITY ACTS
The Student Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act, also
known as the Cleary Act, is a federal law requiring all
colleges and universities in the U.S. to report their crime
statistics and campus security/law enforcement policies
and procedures to the US Department of Education and the
campus community once per year. Copies of the College
publications that serve to meet these laws are available in
the Colleges Department of Campus Safety.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT)
Computer labs are located on campus and students can
rent laptops in the library. In addition, the residence halls
are equipped with wireless high speed internet access.
CAMPUS IDENTIFICATION (ID) CARD
The ID card is the offcial Harcum College identifcation card.
It must be carried by faculty, staff, and students while they
are on the Harcum campus. Students can obtain a ID by
visiting the Department of Campus Safety in Klein Hall.
RESIDENCE LIFE
Trained staff in the Offce of Residence Life are prepared
to assist students in working towards the resolution
of problems that they may be experiencing. The staffs
purpose is to support individual students so that they
experience a positive transition to life at Harcum. Residence
Life staff work closely with other offces on campus such
as Counseling Services and Academic Affairs to assist
students in resolving issues of concern.
ASSIGNING ROOMMATES
When new students enroll they are sent housing and
dining applications. The application asks questions
about roommate preferences that are reviewed prior
to assignments being made. Student can request a
specifc roommate, and as long as both roommate
requests each other, chances are good that they will be
housed together. Students can also choose roommates
during new student orientation. Students are notifed
in late July of their assigned roommates. Roommate
contact information is shared enabling roommates to
contact one another before arriving on campus.
ROOMMATE PROBLEMS
Resident Assistants (RAs) live on each of the residence
hall foors. RAs are students who have been specifcally
trained to assist residents when they experience
roommate diffculties. The RAs begin by having the
roommates meet and discuss their issues, potential
compromises, and what they can do to better meet
each others needs. If the RA is unable to mediate the
confict, the Residential Coordinator (RC), a trained
professional staff member of the hall becomes involved.
If mediation does not resolve the roommate confict,
hall staff will encourage roommates to determine who
would be interested in relocating. Unfortunately, not
all roommate conficts are resolvable. In the event
that neither roommate agrees to move voluntarily, the
Offce of Residence Life may require both roommates to
relocate to a new space on campus.
VISITATION
All non-residents will be held accountable for all rules and
regulations outlined in the Conditions of Occupancy, and the
Student Code of Conduct as outlined in the offcial Harcum
College Student Handbook.
All non-residents must sign in with a Campus offcial, leaving
proper identifcation until time of departure.
All guests must remain in an arms length of their host at all
times.
No resident may have more than one guest signed in at any one
time.
Residents are fnancially responsible for any damages or
violations caused by their guest(s).
Residents and non-residents violating any conditions of
occupancy may lose all visitation rights including overnight
privileges.
