It is important for teachers to be knowledgeable about the technology in their

classroom because teachers need to be able to plan around that technology. For example,

I have placed 12 copies of Final Draft in my budget. These are programs that allow for

screenwriting learning/writing. If I was unaware of having them in my class, I wouldn’t

be able to plan to have any screenwriting writing involved in my class. The absolute

most I could do would be to teach how screenwriting is done, yet I wouldn’t be able to

have the students practice it. This holds even truer for some of the more general items.

For example, if the teacher didn’t have access to a projector, then that could drastically

change her plans for teaching. Any presentations or on the board worksheets she had

planned to use would have to be cancelled and done on paper instead.

It is also important that teachers be included in the decision process because they

know their class better than anyone else. They know exactly what they are going to need

to be able to teach a subject, and teach it in the way they feel will help the students the

best. If they aren’t included, it could result in excess money being spent on items the

teacher won’t use, or it could result in the teacher being unable to educate the students as

well as she could otherwise.
