Welcome to the World!

Praise the Lord! We are blessed to announce the healthy, safe arrival of our
second little girl, Juliette Faith Darnell Hatcher! Juliette made her world
debut, Monday, April 21st at 2:35 pm in Quito, Ecuador weighing 5 lbs 13 oz
and measuring 18 3/4 inches long. We are so thankful for your prayers, emails,
and long distance love! Both Juliette and Emily are doing great! Samantha is
loving her new role as BIG sister, and now all three girls have John wrapped
around their ngers!
Having a child abroad is a unique experience. Dealing with language and
cultural differences are sometimes challenging, but God always works out the
details. We are so thankful to have friends supporting us here as well as back in
the states. Please pray for us as we adjust to being a family of four!
*Interesting Fact* Juliette will now be a dual citizen of Ecuador and The
United States of America. She will also have both Johns last name and Emilys
maiden name as is customary in Ecuador!

Climbing to 16,818 feet, growing closer to Jesus.
At the end of March, I had the opportunity to climb
Los Illinizas with a short term mission team. They
are twin volcanic peaks just south of Quito, and we
climbed the north one with a summit altitude of
16,818 feet. It was incredible!
When people look at adventure and outdoor ministry,
they might not understand exactly how the ministry
side of it functions. Well, just on our climb to the top,
I witnessed how God uses his creation, the
classroom He created, to work in the hearts of
those climbing.
There were about 40 of us ascending. The higher you
get, the more your body aches. You feel nauseous,
light headed, and weak. Without the encouragement
of your teammates, you have no chance of arriving to
the top. Instead of hearing a sermon on
encouraging and edifying others in the body of
Christ, we were living it as we climbed the
mountain.
Not only did we have to rely on one another to get to
the top, we discovered the ultimate source of our
strength, our creator. We had a chant as we climbed:
Someone feeling weak would say: I lift my eyes to the
hills. Where does my help come from? The others
would answer, My help comes from the LORD, the
maker of heaven and earth. It wasnt just a ritual
in a church building, it was a plea for help at
16,000 feet in the snow and cold.
That is precisely the ministry side of what we do.
Instead of just preaching, we design adventure to
help people experience their creator.
