Match Report;
Hester double gets Sydney over the line against Giants ------------------------------------------------------------------- Sydney,NSW Devin Hester had to produce his best work to get the Sydney Blues over the line against a gallant Gold Coast Giants. Hester turned from the villain to the hero after fumbling away possession early on when he lost the ball on a punt return. However the Giants were unable to do anything with the ball which gave the American wide out his chance. On third and long new Quarterback Matt Heasman was given just enough time to find Hester who had broken coverage on a crossing pattern and with that much room and his speed he was never going to be caught. Hester raced in from 27 yards.
But Hester is best known for his return ability and that was on show big time today. After the Giants had posted a field goal, Hester split open the return coverage and made the 101 yard dash look easy. But his celebrations were short lived as in an amazing situation Roki Boston then replied with a 96 yard kick off return of his own.
When the amazing minute of craziness was over normal reception resumed and both teams slugged it out over the remainder of the game. No one could really get the offense going and it was the blitz pressure from the Blues and the great outside pass rush of Chippe Rheinberger that held both sides in check.
In the end the only additional score was a 4 th quarter field goal to Matt Wehbe and despite a late fumble by Greg Watene that gave the Blues heart failure, Sydney snuck home 14-13.
