THE KAUST CATALYSIS CENTER The KAUST Catalysis Center (KCC) is devoted to Catalysis by Design. The objectives of KCC are to develop new concepts in the elds of energy, environment, materials, and nanotechnologies. This center aims for excellence at the international level. To nd out about KCC, visit http://kcc.kaust.edu.sa. The theme of research associated with this Chair is New Concept in Polymer Catalysis towards Major Breakthroughs. Considering the ambition of the topic, the prole of the candidate could vary from a young researcher to a more mature professor. Applications should include a curriculum vitae, statements on research plans with brief research proposals as well as teaching philosophies. Please submit your application to the Universitys employment website at: http://www.kaust.edu.sa/ employment/employment.html The Catalysis Center at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is launching a Professor Chair, sponsored by SABIC, in the eld of Polymer Sciences and Catalysis. KAUST is an international graduate-level, merit-based research university dedicated to advancing science and technology through innovative and collaborative research and to address challenges of regional and global signicance. Located on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia, KAUST offers superb research facilities, generous assured research funding, and internationally competitive salaries. All projects have a minimum 6 month duration. The MS student will participate in research activities in close collaboration with faculty, postdocs and senior PhD students. Ongoing projects include: Soot formation in flames Smoke point and soot measurements in counterflow and co-flow flames at high pressure (Profs. Roberts & Chung, EXP); design, characterization and testing of extractive soot sampling apparatus for high pressure flames (Profs. Roberts & Chung, EXP); analysis & modeling of soot formation in turbulent flames via massive direct numerical simulation databases (Prof. Bisetti, NUM). Fuel kinetics & combustion emissions Development of spectroscopic detection methods for greenhouse gases (Prof. Farooq, EXP); characterization of ignition properties of heptane isomers in shock tubes (Prof. Farooq, EXP); development of detailed and reduced chemical kinetic combustion models for biofuels and alternative fuels (Prof. Sarathy, NUM). Flame structure and dynamics Investigation of lifted tribrachial n-heptane flames (Profs. Bisetti & Sarathy, NUM); auto-ignition characteristics in spark-assisted compression ignition (SACI) combustion (Prof. Im, NUM); stability of flame propagation within a narrow channel for meso- and micro-combustor applications (Prof. Im, NUM). Numerical methods for thermal/fluids systems Advanced tabulation techniques for large-eddy simulation of turbulent combustion (Prof. Bisetti, NUM); immersed boundary method for solid boundary representation in reactive flows (Prof. Im, NUM). CCRC Visiting Student Fellowships are available to support participating students. The fellowships provide a monthly stipend and are awarded on a merit basis. Please inquire about the CCRC Visiting Student Fellowship details and application process with Ms. Claire Morris (claire.morris@kaust.edu.sa). Students interested in applying should contact Prof. Fabrizio Bisetti (fabrizio.bisetti@kaust.edu.sa) at KAUST and Prof. Mauro Valorani (mauro.valorani@uniroma1.it) at La Sapienza University. Please contact individual CCRC faculty members for information about specific projects. KAUST is an equal opportunity employer.
