DDC STARTS BROAD CHANNEL PROJECT

On/about the week of August 4, 2014

Installation of New Bulkheads, Water Main, Sanitary and Storm Sewers,
Roadway Reconstruction, Sidewalks, Traffic and Street Lighting

On/about the week of August 4, 2014, the City of New York Department of Design and Construction (DDC) will begin a
construction project to install/replace bulkheads and outfalls, water main, sanitary and storm sewers, new streets
and sidewalks on West 11
th
, West 12
th
and West 13
th
Roads in the Broad Channel area of Queens. This project has an
anticipated completion date of Summer 2017.

WHERE WILL WORK BE PERFORMED?

Work will be performed at the following locations:
West 11
th
Road between Cross Bay Boulevard and the shoreline of Jamaica Bay;
West 12
th
Road between Cross Bay Boulevard and the shoreline of Jamaica Bay;
West 13
th
Road between Cross Bay Boulevard and the shoreline of Jamaica Bay;
Cross Bay Boulevard between West 11
th
Road and West 13
th
Road.

WHAT WORK WILL BE DONE?
Work scheduled on this project includes installation of new bulkheads and outfalls at the shoreline, new water main,
new storm and sanitary sewers, catch basins, hydrants, roadway reconstruction, sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, traffic
lights, street lighting and planting of trees.

WHAT ARE THE COMMUNITY IMPACTS?
The DDC is committed to maintaining a work site that is safe and clean. However, dust, noise and heavy equipment
are common elements of construction and we ask for your patience during the project. There may be limited street
access on certain blocks. However, deliveries to residential properties and emergency vehicle access will be allowed.
In addition, the DDC will be baiting the construction zone on a regular basis to control rodent populations.

Water Service Interruptions
During the course of this project, temporary water service disruptions will be necessary in order to replace the water
mains. If it is necessary for DDC to turn off your water service, you will receive written notice 72 hours in advance and
again by 4 p.m. the day before service interruption. Water service will be restored everyday by 6pm. If additional shut
downs are required you will receive a new notice daily until work is completed.

Pedestrian / Traffic

Pedestrian access to buildings will be maintained at all times.
Street closures may be required; warning signs will be posted in advance.
Driveway access may be temporarily interrupted in order to complete construction.

Public transportation

Bus stops and/or bus routes may be relocated/detoured during the course of this construction. Signs and
directions will be posted noting the changes.


WHAT ARE THE HOURS OF WORK?
Typical work hours will be Monday-Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Night and weekend work may be necessary;
however, advance notice will be given of any work outside of typical daytime hours.
