This document reports a new sighting of the Ruby Topaz hummingbird (Chrysolampis mosquitus) in Acre, Brazil. On August 28, 2007, the authors observed a male C. mosquitus feeding at shrubs and trees near cattle pastures along the upper Purus River in Acre. Over the next two days, they unsuccessfully tried to capture the bird in mist nets but did photograph the male perched on shrubs. This represents the first record of C. mosquitus in Acre and the westernmost sighting in the Brazilian Amazon. The species prefers open and disturbed habitats in southern parts of the Amazon.
