THIRD STRIKER ON PAROLE FACES CHARGES OF ARMED HOME INVASION

ROBBERY OF DAYCARE PROVIDER HOLDING A BABY IN HER ARMS
*Five other children present during the robbery

NEWPORT BEACH – A third striker parolee was in court today on charges of robbing of a woman holding a baby boy in her
arms, in front of five other young children, in her home. Hung Trong Do, 31, Stanton, is charged with felonies for one count
each of residential robbery, residential burglary, child abuse and endangerment, and possession of a firearm by a felon, two
counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and sentencing enhancements for committing a crime while there was a
victim present in the house and the personal use of a firearm. Do is a third striker with two prior strike convictions of a 1996
attempted murder and a 2008 residential burglary and state prison priors. He faces a maximum sentence of life in state
prison if convicted. Do is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled for continued arraignment on June 26, 2009, at 9:00
a.m. in Department H-1, Harbor Justice Center, Newport Beach.

At approximately 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, Do is accused of breaking into the home of Jane Doe on Del
Carlo Street in Irvine. Jane Doe ran a daycare for six children ranging in age from 6 months to 3 years old. Jane Doe was
sitting on the couch in the living room feeding baby John Doe. There were five other children in the room. Do is accused of
coming through the garage door into the living room, pointing a loaded .40 caliber semiautomatic firearm at Jane Doe’s
head, and demanding money. He is accused of pressing the gun barrel into the back of her neck while the victim pleaded
with the defendant to not harm the children. He is accused of grabbing Jane Doe by the collar of her shirt and walking her to
the dining room area while holding baby John Doe in her arms. Do is accused of forcing Jane Doe to take money out of her
purse and taking $100 by using force and fear. Do is accused of pointing the gun at Jane Doe’s husband when he arrived
home during the robbery. Jane Doe managed to get to the phone in the dining room and called 9-1-1. Do is accused of
arguing with the victim’s husband before fleeing the scene.

The Irvine Police Department arrived on the scene 30 minutes later and found Do loitering in a nearby apartment complex.
The police recovered the loaded .40 caliber semiautomatic firearm in some nearby bushes after being alerted to the weapon
by a police K9.

Deputy District Attorney Jon Sparks of the Harbor Justice Center is prosecuting this case.
